Re: CS goes gold for Xbox and first impressions...
Apparently the sinle-player levels from CS : CZ on PC are going to get a caning from reviewers and already have in some cases if you check gamerankings.com . Doesn't matter cause I'm only there to play mp.

Re: CS goes gold for Xbox and first impressions...
I think it means that the game is ready & has been sent off for pressing. (coming from, I think, the term "gold disc", which is a/the master copy)

When I first saw the thread title, i thought it was Crimson Skies!
Tez's definition sounds good, could it also mean that pre-order sales have made the game go 'gold' as in the same terms as the music biz when CD's go gold or platinum ????

Re: CS goes gold for Xbox and first impressions...
I'm referring to Crimson Skies as CS2 as it is the 2nd incarnation of the game and Counter-Strike as CS or CS : CZ.
Tez's interpretation of 'gold' is correct.

Re: CS goes gold for Xbox and first impressions...
After the cr@p that was Steam beta and having stopped my 2+ years of CS playing in February because of Live, I've installed the latest version of Steam and had a go at CS 1.6 in preperation for the Xbox version.
I was hoping the maps and modelling were better than what I saw, but I guess I can't complain about 5 year old modified engine.
The riot-shield is a good laugh, but not too sure about the new weapons. The only new weapon I used for a bit as a terrorist was the Galil.
The game is still good, but definitely showing its age.

Re: CS goes gold for Xbox and first impressions...
ProjectEgo posted the following at BXB. Don't know what his source was for the article:
Quote:
Aiming is solid. It's like Halo, which works well enough. There is a noticeable auto-aim which results in a lot of headshots. The game is a lot more arcadey because aiming isn't as tight. Generally, this means that it is not necessary and even silly to burst fire on most occasions. Certainly bursts themselves, if used, are much longer. That two round burst is now a ten round one.
In conclusion, Counter-Strike's Xbox port is a different game. Sure, things will be familiar and you'll have an edge if you play CS right now, but so will those who play Halo. Aiming and firing, the most basic elements of any first person shooter are not only different in CSX, but the differences change the entire game. You cannot possibly play in the same fashion you do with CS 1.5 on the PC and expect to succeed. For that reason, CSX is a unique and fulfilling experience on its own.

Re: CS goes gold for Xbox and first impressions...
Gamespy's positive review:
http://www.gamespy.com/reviews/novem...terstrikexbox/
The circular menu for buying weapons between rounds sounds good and it better be bye, bye haX0rs and it will definitely be goodbye to some other recent FPS release which has been disappointing.

Re: CS goes gold for Xbox and first impressions...
So much for the >8.6/10 from Gamespot for Xbox games recently which I mentioned in the GTA review. Counter-strike gets slightly hammered:
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/action/...ike/index.html
Gamespot looks to be back to the single-player bashing when the mp is where ppl will judge this game. Some of their criticisms will probably be right but then we already know a mouse beats a gamepad so why berate this yet again. Funnily they didn't mention cheating, which is the biggest problem for CS on PC and whether cheating had been found yet on the Live service for CS.
Oh, oh.

Looks good, very arcady tho...so we'll see....I prefer the look of R63 so far...but it's still pre-release!
I've just about watched all of this 15 odd 20MB video files they most kindly gave us!! I laughed a bit half way thro the first online video....One guy says "Right, I've placed the bomb at point B, now I'm off to camp"....then his teammate says...."You mean guard don't you!" ....lol

As you know, I like my games to have distinct feel. RS3 on Xbox has moved to being arcady. Once I've played CS, I'll make my mind up, which game I prefer to play, but at the moment, I'd take CS over RS3 on Xbox. The ultimate insult may yet come if SOCOM2 is as good as it looks and is hack-free. I might be playing console FPS only on a ps2 (until Halo2 that is), although I might still play GRIT.
