E3 2010: New Slimline Xbox360
How sweet does this look. Just announced at E3
- Slimer and smaller
- Built in Wireless N
- 250GB HDD
- Kinect Ready( I think the aux port on the back may power it?)

Ooh shiny!
The kinect stuff looks pretty damn funky. A bit worried they are keeping the price under wraps though.

Re: E3 2010: New Slimline Xbox360
This new slime console will cost the same as the current one and also its 'whisper quiet'!!
I am sold as my launch console is so noisy and the hard drive is full up.
Kinect does look amazing. Never knew about the console voice control stuff though. That was impressive.
Basically they have taken the Wii style gaming to another level with no actual controller just the camera thing.
Another thing, everyone in the audience at the press thing was given a slim 360 at the end!!! Wish I was there!

Re: E3 2010: New Slimline Xbox360
Just seen it unveiled during the press conference although it was leaked by some italian website yesterday. Looks like a thing of beauty but if its anything like the old model PS3 is it will be a major dust magnet.
It's very well priced to considering its got Wi-Fi built in now. I just hope they don't bump the price up over here but I'm not holding my breath. If they don't I can certainly see myself picking one up I love that look.
Edit* The lucky gits at the press conference got a free one each to

An even better photo with Kinect and a controller by its side. Beautiful!
Possibly available in the UK mid July with the Kinect launching early November.

and the xbox360 biggest flaw was the fact it over heats. Making it smaller is gonna help this how?

They'd have to be stupid to repeat the same mistake again. My guess would be the internal layout will have been redesigned but theres no real details yet. By the look of the fan slots it may have a bigger fan that may cool it better but thats just pure guessing obviously.

Re: E3 2010: New Slimline Xbox360
For a start its been 5 yrs since the console launched. They are now able to make the inards smaller, which equals less heat and less fans and there are plenty of vents on the side of the console too.
The overheating hasn't been as much of an issue with the latest hardware. There have been so many revisions of the hardware with new chipsets and different cooling methods over the last 5 years.
I am still using my launch console so the problems aren't that big a deal.

Agreed apart from the last sentence. There obviously were big problems and just because your lucky enough to still be using your launch console that does not make them any less so.

only to you because you have not suffered the overheat
You are most likely right they would have redesigned it but we will see if they have been effective
my computer cases over the years have been getting larger not smaller
by inards I assume you mean chip processes getting thinner? requiring less voltage across them?

Yea the inards - chips and mobo, HDD seems internal as well now and so does the psu.
Update: Here are some detailed specs.
• Touch sensitive on/off and eject buttons (like the PS3)
• "Much quieter"
• 250GB internal hard drive, which is still swappable.
• A custom Kinect port (not the standard USB port)
• There are five USB ports now, with three in the back and two in the front
• AV cable included, an HDMI and optical audio
• Different power supply
• External Xbox 360 hard drives and memory units are NOT compatible with the new Xbox
• Other accessories are
• Internal components that are changed: two small fans changed into one large fan for quieter operation, 45nm integrated CPU and GPU

Re: E3 2010: New Slimline Xbox360
So are there any significant hardware changes within the 360 apart from Wireless N and a kinect port on the back? anything like an updated Graphics chip to make it better than the current console? just wondering if its enough to warrant trading in my current Elite for a slimline. Though if not Could we see a price drop in the Wireless N Adapter?

Re: E3 2010: New Slimline Xbox360
Photos of the new motherboard leaked a few months ago. Seem now to be real.
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/17/ru...images-leaked/
Main changes are the size, one fan instead of two as the CPU and GPU are now intergrated.
5 usb ports, the optical port on the console and large internal HDD.
Its no more powerful than the current console though Madgamer, they wouldn't do that.

Thanks for the update. If that does turn out to be the price I think I'll pick one up. Been thinking of switching to an elite for a while now so this makes sense
