Having Xbox 360 Downstairs
Hey guys, I want to move my 360 and play on it downstairs while my parents are away. Now it is currently sitting on a hardwood shelf in my room. If I take it downstairs it will sit on a hardwood Amtico floor. Is this ok as it will have space around it to breathe and what about the Power Supply?

Re: Having Xbox 360 Downstairs
It should be excellent. I put my power supply on the floor, and it never over heats. The space with my TV, V+, 360 and PS3 is very crowded and everything gets enough room to breathe. You should be fine. It's not like you'll have it on 24/7 too.

Re: Having Xbox 360 Downstairs
I cant see there being a problem, my power pack is on my hardwood floor, and its doesn't get that warm it could damage the wood, if that's what your concerned about.
While your moving it all downstairs give it a good hoovering while your at it, the vents can become blocked especially on the power packs, and might cause it to run a bit too warm
have fun, and I take your parents TV is bigger than the one in your room (wink)

I just unplug everything first, remove the hard drive, get the hoover out with a bristle attachment on the hose bit and give it a ruddy good going over, paying special attention to the 2 fans on the back (sometimes a tiny brush being gently stabbed at the fans can dislodge the crud.
Then I get a can of compressed air with the tube attached and direct it strait through the fans inside the console to hopefully dislodge the build of dust on the heat sinks, then finish off again with the hoover.
It should be sweet after that

Re: Having Xbox 360 Downstairs
I have one for the Wii, and my brother in law has one for his 2nd Xbox first one had ring of death.
He's a big gamer and said he would always have one now.

I did give it a good blow at the back myself without compressed air, don't think it did any good though. Is it safe to use a hoover bearing in mind static and all that jazz

Absolutely safe as houses, but unless you've got lungs like a professional trumpet player , you aint gonna shift jack .
The idea really is to shift as much dust before it gets sucked inside, Ive repaired hundreds of them over the years, and can say first hand that dust is the cause or contributor to many failures, so a bit of preventative maintenance cant do any harm.
I don't personally like those cooling stands, unless they are powered separately of course, I've heard a few peoples concerns about the ones powered by the xbox's usb ports and wouldn't use one myself.
