Play & Charge Kit causes RRoD on my Elite

Hey all,

I seem to be having an issue with my Play and Charge kit (original white one). When I plug it into any of the 3 USB ports, connect to controller and then turn on the console, I get the RRoD on the Elite (a few weeks old).

The console gets audibly louder (fan spins faster) like theres a higher power drain.

It makes the console freeze completely.

If the console is on standby with the kit plugged in, it does charge, but its annoying... Does anyone know if there are problems with the older kits? Should I buy a new black one?

I've looked on google but to no avail I don't know whether to phone MS or ask for a replacement xbox from Amazon??...

Re: Play & Charge Kit causes RRoD on my Elite

Phone Amazon and see what they say, they may just replace it. I have a play n charge kit a few months old (bought in Jan when I traded in my Pro for an Elite) and haven't had any of the issues you describe. Could be that the white kit that you have is possibly failing.

Re: Play & Charge Kit causes RRoD on my Elite

I thought it might be the white kit thats at fault...Its only been used a handful of times, as my batteries tend to last me ages.

I think I'll look at Argos first for a new P&C kit.

The kits haven't changed at all afaik.

It may be your console. Might be worth getting it replaced if its only a few weeks old.

Re: Play & Charge Kit causes RRoD on my Elite

Thanks for the input Stephen, I thought it was the console myself, as the kit worked fine previously.

I've just looked...more than a few weeks...about 3months (amazing how time flies eh?) Still within the 6months of being sorted by the retailer

Amazon phone number: 0800 496 1081 and I have just noticed that they have a "Call Me" option as well, which is handy.

Re: Play & Charge Kit causes RRoD on my Elite

Yeah, I've phoned them today already about something completely unrelated, their support line closes at 8pm though, so I'll call them in the morning while I'm at work

Before my 360 died it started to sound like a 747 taking off

Phoned Amazon and they are sending me a Replacement Elite. Hopefully this might fix my HDMI issue at the same time

Yes, after the new one arrives, you have 30 days to return the old one. So gives me chance to do my testing etc and sort the HDD out

Re: Play & Charge Kit causes RRoD on my Elite

Well... My shiny new Elite arrived today (Service, as usual from Amazon is second-to-none). Unfortunately, it hasn't solved either my HDMI issue, or the P&C Kit issue, but on the bright side, I've got a nice new Elite with longer Warranty, but it looks like I'll have to purchase a new P&C Kit.

Strange how the kit still works when the Elite is switched off.... I wondered if it was one of the XBL Updates messing with the firmware? But that can't be the case if no-one else has this issue.
