Dead Disk-Is There Hope?

Hi all,

My sons ageing disk seems to have died on his 360. When you go to the system/memory option the Xbox recognises the disk but there is no content and the only option is format..

1-Is there anyway to recover the files ?
2-Is it worth a reformat or shall I just bit bullet for a new bigger 120 disk
3-Is there any way you can back up an xbox 360 disk onto a portable harddrive

Any help much appreciated.

Ta

Re: Dead Disk-Is There Hope?

1. Very unlikely - it uses a proprietary format, so even if you could take the disk mech out and connect to a PC it wouldn't be readable by the PC.
2. Probably better off with the new disk.
3. You can move limited info to an official MS flash drive I think but I don't think there is a concept of backing up.
Don't forget, achievements & XBL Arcade purchases are synced to the MS servers (assuming the 360 is online) so the only thing 'lost' is game saves and pictures/videos/music imported from other sources (which are presumably still avail in the original place).

Re: Dead Disk-Is There Hope?

1) Quite probably, a program such as spinrite may recover the drive, but I would still advise replacing it. you can easily backup drive content using Xplorer360.
2) Once an IDE or SATA drive has become unreliable once it's a good idea to replace it even if you can recover the data from it.
3) Using Xplorer360 yes,

There is a howto here
