Xbox 360 froze while watching a DVD

Hey guys, my Xbox 360 froze while watching a DVD this morning, so I switched it off for 30 seconds then switched it back on, and it did it again. So i rebooted the console and tried COD:MW 2. Now this works fine? The dvd is brand new and is part of a box set so isn't damaged. The other DVD's have played fine last night, with the console on a shelf, standing upright so that the vents aren't blocked.

you cant see quite clearly but there is enough of a gap either side so the console won't overheat.

now have it horizontally so will keep an eye on it.

Re: Xbox 360 froze while watching a DVD

is it just me or have you got your box set the wrong way , usb's should be at the bottom ??

not that it will make differece to airflow but might goof your discs up .. , computers crash , i wouldn't worry about it too much , if it keeps crashing you will probably get the dreaded rrod , wouldn't worry too much about that either ...... it WILL happen sooner or later.

Re: Xbox 360 froze while watching a DVD

I had it set like that because the big vent is then free to kick hot air out..... or is that to take cool air in?

Re: Xbox 360 froze while watching a DVD

definately goes the other way up , if you had a hard drive it would be sitting on top of it now, wouldn't worry too much about airflow , its not sat on a carpet , its not in an enclosed space , it will be fine how old is it ??

Re: Xbox 360 froze while watching a DVD

I found my XBox crashed/didn't load games sometimes when it was vertical. I've had it horizontal for a while now and its been fine.

Ignore BulkyLad's remark that you WILL get RROD eventually. My 20GB Premium is still going strong after nearly 4 years without any kind of repair

mine was nearly 4 years old , thought it wouldn't happen to me either , believe it or not your better off if it does , mine was completely out of warranty (rrod extended warranty) so my only option was to buy a new one

Well the dvd hasn't froze so im guessing horizontal is the way to go. Ive had it since Dec 2006, and its gone wrong 3 times in 2007, but since it last came back its been fine. am looking to upgrade to the 120gb hdd from the 20gb i have.

Re: Xbox 360 froze while watching a DVD

I'm also looking to upgrade my HDD...BUT I'm considering buying a new elite console for the price difference £99 for HDD (only place that has them brand new in stock is MS direct) and its only like £179.99 for an Elite @ Argos

Yes it does. MS Online Store says so...and if you buy an Elite... apparently you can contact MS and they'll send you one for free.

Re: Xbox 360 froze while watching a DVD

Wayne, why not see what price you'd get for trading your 20GB Premium 360 towards an Elite?

OK, you'd pay a bit more than if you simply bought a 120GB HDD on its own, but you'd benefit from having a nice new console with a new warranty.

btw... you say you have a 20GB HDD? Where is it, given that when you had the 360 stood vertically you had it the wrong way up & it was standing where the HDD would be.

Not supposed to be a good idea to have them vertical, can scratch discs.
