One million xbox accounts banned
Quote:
Microsoft has banned "a small percentage" of Xbox Live users found to be in possession of modified Xbox 360 consoles.
While the platform holder didn't release specific figures, the Guardian reports that the number of users affected ranges from 600,000 to one million. Xbox Live had over 20 million active members across 26 countries as of May 2009

Re: One million xbox accounts banned
I was really suprised by this I don't think I have ever seen should a mass success for MS, I must admit I did have one and got done but was stupid and wish I never did it but my mate had his done and said it was great plus he said I could play any region so that was big plus to me, but I have a nice new shiny elite and its staying unmodded.

Re: One million xbox accounts banned
It was a stupid idea and I payed for it so this elite is staying unmodded and my nephew can have my old one as he doesn't play online so it will be fine for him.

Re: One million xbox accounts banned
You can still play on the Xbox360 - you just cant use LIVE. Which is fair enough.
My Premium is unmodded as I don't like the fact people do it to play copied (as opposed to other region) games.

....or get any dashboard and game updates, or use any DLC you might have paid for, or use the media centre function on the 360, or install games to the HDD.

This weekend, angry pirates( thats funny to type) threw loose threats at Stephen Toulouse the director of Policy and Enforcement for Xbox Live. Pressed with phone calls where threats toward himself, wife, and pets were made.

You should be able to use media centre features over your local LAN.
I think its a good thing.... Exactly the same as VM bricking modems

Re: One million xbox accounts banned
I've read the links around here and I'm pretty shocked with how Microsoft are handling all this. I completely agree that they are right to be banning consoles from accessing online content when a console is chipped to play pirate games. It seems however that they are banning people who have simply gotten their consoles fixed.
The RRoD is such a common problem, I've had two xboxes suffer this already and it seems that people have been visiting local repair shops to get them fixed. Microsoft surely can't control how people go about fixing consoles and banning them if they go anywhere but themselves to get them fixed.
I know they extended the warranty on RRoD but what happens if you are out of warranty or your problem is not the RRoD? You have to go to Microsoft or they will ban you? Isn't that against competition laws?
Ban the pirates but don't ban people who simply wanted to fix their faulty systems cheaply and quickly.
And no right of appeal? What kind of justice system do we live in now?
