xbox to PC monitor

Hi,

I am thinking about geting an xbox but i dont have a TV in my room because im poor. :-(

However, i believe there is a way of connecting it to a PC monitor. I have had a look around and im a little bit confused.

Here is what i have at the mo... I have a 22" HD ready LCD monitor which has a DVI and VGA input. The monitor does not have any speakers built in as i have creative 7.1 surround. If i wanted to connect the xbox to the monitor i believe i would need to buy a cable which has HD on one end and vga connector on the other with the two RCA plugs for the sound is this correct? However if i did this where would i plug the two RCA plugs into? I have a little remote thingy for the speakers which has a 3.5mm jack input on the side. Would a RCA to jack adapter work for this?

Also (just incase this is an option) my graphics card came with a HDMI to DVI converter. Im not sure what cables the xbox is shipped with!? Could i use this for something?

Anyway... if someone could help me out with knowing what to buy to get this set up and how i woudl go about it that would be great. especially as the new COD is on its way!

Re: xbox to PC monitor

Just buy a Microsoft VGA cable. It plugs into the back of your xbox (The big socket) and into the VGA port on your monitor. There are 2 leads for the sound + an adaptor that will combine the two into a regular headphone jack if you only have one input. This should solve all your problems.

haha, not sure if i trust myself to break things open.

yea, i had a look at that. didnt realise it came with the adapter to make it a single jack. The are only like £1 anyways i think.

Thanks, im glad i got that one cleared up. Just a quick question though... if i use that vga cable from microsoft will it still play in HD on my monitor?
