Transfering XBox Data
Hi all,
My first post in the Xbox section of CF!
My nephew has an XBox 360 which is scratching discs and it's going to be replaced.
The sister-in-law (to be....one day....perhaps ;-) has been told be Game that they need some special cable to transfer the game data and she needs to apply to Microsoft for one. All this smells a bit fishy to me, so I thought I'd ask the experts!
So - how do we copy of the game data / scores etc to another XBox 360?
I have no knowledge of Xbox(es)!
Cheers
Lee

Re: Transfering XBox Data
They are not lying to you. Because of the way M$ have setup there console you do need the cable as far as I'm aware to transfer gamedata across. I'm not sure if there is a work around but the following link will show you the M$ advised way.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937279?sd=xbox
Btw is the console an elite ? If so you may be able to get the Cable for free - http://www.xbox.com/NR/rdonlyres/E6F...withfax_EN.pdf

Re: Transfering XBox Data
Saved games can normally be moved using a memory module. It's the DRM that is moved by the cable, but you should be able to save all the game data to a memory module and then log in to xbox live and retrieve your gamer tag from there and then re-download all the stuff.

Got a new Xbox 360® console? Great. But maybe you downloaded games or other content from Xbox LIVE® Marketplace onto an older Xbox 360 console, and now you want all that content on your new system. Well, now there's a way to do it.
With the license transfer tool, you can transfer the licenses of all your previously downloaded content from your old console to the new one.

See here :- http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/sy...ensemigration/
You can only use this once a year apparently.
EDIT I've used this last time my xbox360 broke and was replaced. Easy to do and solves the problems of DRM.

Re: Transfering XBox Data
Normally, MS tell you to remove the disk when it is returned for service (and any other peripherals).
If it's just being sent for a new DVD drive, shouldn't need to transfer anything.

Re: Transfering XBox Data
Can you not just move the HDD to another unit?
Or is it pair with the base unit?

No, the disk is not paired.

For the most part true, I agree but you will still need to use the DRM transfer tool. The way Digital Rights Management has been set by Microsoft is that the game licence is linked to your xbox hard drive - which you would keep AND the motherboard inside the unit - your broken xbox360 which you no longer have, hence the need for the DRM transfer tool.

Re: Transfering XBox Data
You only need to use the transfer kit if you want to use your downloads when not connected to Xbox Live.

Re: Transfering XBox Data
I have a transfer kit you can borrow if you like. PM me.
[edit]Hold on a second, this is totally wrong. Your console should come back with the same serial number, in which case there is no need to transfer/redownload anything. The transfer kit is solely for upgrading a smaller HD to a large one, hence the "elite transfer kit offer" as the elite comes with a 120GB HD.
If your console comes back with a different serial (rare, but does happen) then you'll need to redownload anything with DRM (Live! purchased games, etc).

No, he's getting it replaced by Game. They will want the original disc I think. So, I doubt he will have any time to swap data over with a cable anyway as that would require he has both HDs in his possession!

Re: Transfering XBox Data
xbox 360 XSATA kit or XPORT kit... All on Sites like Amazon or Play
Xbox 360's Require the HDD to Go back If Its the RROD or 1 red light Because In Some Instances The HDD causes the Problem
Xbox 360 HDD's are not Paired to a serial Number
Adzii - Get bored and Fix Consoles instead of computers
The Above Is For Sending To Microsoft ------------------------------------
As For Sending Back to GAME
XPORT HDD OR XSATA HDD all plug into PC backing up your gamesaves aswell as being able to cheat on the 360... All clip onto your HDD for Transfering
Game Scratching is Usually Caused By the Console Being in an Upright Position Or being Knocked Etc.
If anyone Lives In the Newcastle Area and Has an Out of Warranty Console that Needs Repaired Or Seen too Dont hesitate to PM me as Ill help in anyway Possible

Re: Transfering XBox Data
I just bought a new super elite console (woohoo!) and didn't bother with the transfer cable at all.
All saved games were moved using a memory unit although you do have to be careful when moving some saved games: rather than using the "move" option you actually have to open the game and change the storage device therin then create a new save. If you can't move the save you will see an error message to effect that the content cannot be moved.
After transferring saves it was just a matter of running the DRM transfer utility from the Xbox Live site then redownloading all DLC to the new console (you could even skip the DRM transfer step providing you are always signed in). OK it takes a while but it saves waiting days for a transfer cable to arrive.
