Following several weeks of speculation, Microsoft today confirmed the U.S. pricing options for its Kinect motion-sensing controller interface, offering a console bundle for new consumers and one for existing Xbox 360 owners.

An Xbox 360 with 4GB of internal Flash memory will be sold in a $299.99 bundle "this holiday" with the Kinect sensor device and launch title Kinect Adventures, which features obstacle courses, river races and other one-on-one play activities. Kinect and the game will be sold independently of the console for $149.99.

In the UK, the 4GB Xbox 360 Kinect bundle will retail for £249.99 ($382) and also include Kinect Adventures, with the same package selling for €249.99 ($323) in mainland Europe. Microsoft is also selling Kinect and the game in a package for £129.99 ($197) in the UK and €149 ($193) in mainland Europe.

The bundle doesn't sound too bad, but the standalone price = epic fail IMO.

Kinect seems to me to be aimed at the casual / party-game market, currently dominated by Nintendo's Wii... and I think £130 is too high for that.

[And come to think of it, for that market, the bundle price is too high too, going up against the Wii. Still, it's not just MS charging too much, Sony's "Move" is overpriced too I think]

Those who don't have the new 360 slim will also need a spare socket to plug the kinect(sic) into, and most likely have to disconnect a wireless adapter to use the rear usb slot.

It's not worth the hassle

I wasn't aware the Rear USB port on the 360 did anything different to the two front ones?

The only reason you need to use the rear one on the Wireless Receiver is due to cable length and the litte lugs to attach it to the rear of your console (unless you have an extension) isn't it?

Now after it's official release date the price of Kinect is down in some places to £115

Whilst Amazon still lists the Kinect at the RRP of £130, others such as The Hut and Zavvi have started to lop chunks off the price, offfering it at £120 and £115 respectively.

There's also mention in the same article that you can get the New Xbox 360s for £169.99 (excluding delivery) using a code on the MS site.

As with all new technology they put it out at silly price, then after christmas or maybe just before they will knock £10 then £20 and then they will be under 100, look at rock band when that came out.

Am out at the moment to. Nothing on it that i'm intrested in yet. Will keep an eye on it though. Same probably goes for Move to. More a case of wait and see how they develop.

Kinect was worth £100 max for me, so I'm not interested at the current price. And they removed the on-board processor to reduce manufacturing costs.

OK. So I have had Kinect on preorder now for 3 months at thehut.com and they have just sent an email (when they are closed conveniently) saying:

"I am really sorry to advise but due to the high demand for Kinect Bundle we are unable to dispatch your order in time for the release date. We expect dispatch of your order to be in early December 2010."

Now I am really really annoyed about this. One week before release and they drop me in it. Anybody have any thoughts about who may have Kinect's still in stock for preorder or I guess I will be going to town and buying at store open

I'm still not bothered about Kinect. The tech's impressive, but if I wanted to play party/kiddie/granny games I'd just dust off my Wii, especially given the price.
