PC to Xbox 360
Apologies if this has previously been addressed, but i've had a search and can't find anything specific.
I'm trying to connect my 360 to my XP Pc, and have narrowed it down to the router not having the 'ports forwarded'. It's a WGR614 Netgear, and i've gotten onto the port forwarding/triggering page, but can't find any information as to what to put into the various boxes.
The ports that need to be open, according to the XBox site are:
TCP: 2869 and 10243
and
UDP: 1900/10280-10284 inclusive.
So, do i need to use triggering or forwarding, and what do i put into the boxes?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Ben

Re: PC to Xbox 360
A few questions
Which model WGR614 is it, & does it have the latest firmware?
What is it you're trying to connect the 360 to the PC for?
Is UPnP (Universal Plug 'n' Play) enabled on the router? Is it enabled on the XP PC?
Which page on the Xbox site did you find those ports?

Re: PC to Xbox 360
Hi Matt...
NetGear WGR614v9 is what it says, not sure about firmware?
Trying to connect to share media - i've enabled it in WMP11, and WMP11 is showing Xbox360 with a big green tick
UPnp is enabled on the router and the PC, and i've just followed some advice in the Networking forum that i found, and checked that SSPD Discovery Service was at manual, as was UPnp, so i changed those to Automatic. I also checked that Windows Media Sharing Service was set at Automatic, which it was.
Having just looked at the page with the ports on, i've realised that it's an old page regarding Windows Media Connect, which i'm guessing i should pay no heed, as i'm using WMP11?
Thanks for the swift reply by the way.
Ben

Re: PC to Xbox 360
Ah, media sharing
You're on the right track already with enabling the various UPnP related services & setting them to Automatic.
You should not need to forward any ports, UPnP should handle everything.
So long as UPnP & Media Sharing etc. are up & running, & you have added your media library to WMP11's list of shared folders, then everything should work - only other thing to check if it still doesn't work is to make sure it's not being blocked by a software firewall (assuming you have one).

Re: PC to Xbox 360
The only Firewall software i'm running is the Windows Firewall at the minute, and WMP is listed as an exception, so that seems fine.
I'm currently going through the instructions here:
http://forums.xbox.com/7738641/ShowPost.aspx
to see what happens.
Fingers crossed.

Re: PC to Xbox 360
IIRC you need to set it up on the Xbox and it gives you a code which you use on the PC, but IIRC you download sowftware form xbox WWW and enter the code there.
this will pair the two.

That's for using the Media Centre Extender function of the 360, with XP Media Centre.
WMP11 (& other UPnP Media Servers, such as TVersity) make use of the Video blade (well, whatever the Video blade is now in the NXE).
