XBOX Live and Laptop WiFi

I want to take advantage of my one month free XBOX Live subscription but dont want to spend a fortune on a wireless adapter or keep bringing my virgin media modem into the living room which is what I had to do to get the Dashboard update. Now I have a Laptop I was wondering if there is a way of providing the internet connection via my laptops wireless connection. I read online that I would have to enable internet connection sharing but how would I go about doing this? The operating system is Windows Vista Home Basic.

Thanks,
Ben

You can buy the Xbox 360 wireless adaptor from Amazon for only £37 at the moment which i think is very reasonable.

Get a long ethernet cable. Its much faster than wireless and its cheaper.

Re: XBOX Live and Laptop WiFi

I would only my router is in the dining room where the computer is and there is a kitchen between it and the living room which are both laminate flooring so I don't know how I would tidily run the wire through.

Re: XBOX Live and Laptop WiFi

My cable runs from my bedroom, down the stairs, through the living room and the kitchen and to my router. The cable is just clipped to the wall

Re: XBOX Live and Laptop WiFi

You can indeed share the internet connection with your laptop using a standard ethernet cable.

Go into the control panel and find the networks section. You should see a LAN connection and your wireless connection. Shift + click both of these, right click and select bridge connections. You should now be able to use xbox live.

You should be able to do it like that. But I thought you had to use a Crossover cable for that.

Re: XBOX Live and Laptop WiFi

Nope, did this myself last week when my Xbox wireless adaptor died on me. Just used a standard ethernet cable.

Re: XBOX Live and Laptop WiFi

No crossover cable needed.

You can also wire your modem to your laptop and then use the wireless to make an adhoc network and connect your xbox to your laptop that way.

Re: XBOX Live and Laptop WiFi

The bridge worked and I can connect to XBOX Live but when I try to view videos that are on my laptop it states that no PCs were found, is there something I need to enable on my Laptop for this?

Re: XBOX Live and Laptop WiFi

Yes, open Windows media player, click the arrow under library, media sharing. Enable it, then authorise the Xbox and share your folders.
