I know but it works, you only let the GPU and CPU overheat till the console goes into shut down (2 red lights), it sounds worse than it is, basically all the so called fixes ive come across have all been bodgers solutions, but in a lot of cases thats all that is needed to kick the console back into life, but its surprising how many people dont know about the 3 year warranty. A far more permanent solution, which effectiveley gives you another 3 years cover against rrod.
Ive repaired about 50 or so over the last couple of years, just for friends and family, some people just cant be bothered with sending them back.
I would always recommend giving microsoft a call before attempting to repair, these fixes should only be a last resort before dumping on the recycling centre floor.
I did one last night and the night before, both had pixelation problems and are both now working, neither of which were covered by the 3 year warranty, which is nuts considering its the same bloody fault.
Given what i know now, i have 3 xbox's and 1 PS3

Yes but it appeares not as many, or it could be the fact that there isnt as many in use, therefore creating the illusion they are more reliable.
The biggest killer of consoles, IMHO is heat, keep them clean and dust free, with the occasional hover and you should be ok. A can of compressed air works a treat to get inside without taking them apart and voiding the warranty.
Ive modded mine, without voiding the warranty i might add, by using the cooling fans from a old xbox, connected to a switch and power supply.
Which has been attached to the hard drive, to blow air in through it and keeps it running cool as you like.
