360 death
Turned my 360 on after not using it in ages (usually use my housemates as his is on the downstairs tv)
It keeps freezing with artifacts on the screen
Manufacturer date is 06/06 although i think i bought it around sept/nov 06 but that was a while back so probably dont still have the receicpt
Will try the helpline as I did get an RROD out of it a couple times but not something I can consistently reproduce.
Hopeing they might offer to replace/repair it under RROD as its just under 3yrs old)
Edit:
Nope they want ~£70 to fix it, although it's not displaying RROD consistently I suspect that's the issue.

Re: 360 death
Let us know what they say?
My mate was in an almost identical situation and they offered to repair his for free.
Took them about a month to do it, though.

Re: 360 death
See above
Not sure I can be bothered, my housemate has a 360 and I so seldom play it thesedays I don't think it's worth it.
Maybe I should have just told them it was RROD did think about doing that, although thought if it went to the repair center and didn't RROD they'd probably charge anyway.

Re: 360 death
Aweh gutted.
If you can't be bothered with payin to get it fixed i'd advise to get it on ebay...as long as yoo list whats wrong with it that'd be ok...
Best to make a bit of money off something yoo won't be able to use again anyway!?

Re: 360 death
i could be wrong but when i sent my out of warranty ( i bought it second hand from blockbusters ) they said if it wasnt rrod i could either just have it returned to me or have it fixed as far as could see there was no charge unless you went for the fix option
as it happens they replaced with a nice shiny new one free of charge so have a go at the online thing to send it back

Re: 360 death
Might see what it says.
Had to laugh though one of their diagnostic steps was ahh because the clock might be wrong
Of course the clock was wrong having just unplugged it to read the SN off of it for them
Did try to explain I suspect either the GPU or the GPU ram is faulty/overheating but i think that was a tad to technical for them, certainly if a pc was exhibiting these things id be looking at changing the GPU or checking it's fan/heatsink.
Edit:
It's decided it wants to work at the moment.... don't know how long for though
Edit2:
Nope died again

Re: 360 death
Is it too late to just tell them it has the RROD & get it done for free?
[even if it doesn't have it consistently]

Re: 360 death
Perhaps - hypothetically speaking of course - it would be possible to encourage a 360 to have a permanent RROD...

That appeared to get it working for now although how long for I don't know if it will break again once it cools down
Was able to play burnout on it for a while tho.

Re: 360 death
Did you get the horrible screeching sound when the picture froze, I did, mine turned out to be a motherboard fault but this is talking 2 years ago now.

Leave the towels on for longer then it might give it a proper RROD. then MS should repair it.
