xbox connection problem
Hi, I am hoping there is someone out there who can help me!
I've just got a new xbox for xmas and I'm having trouble connecting it to my
Philips HD ready tv.
I have followed the instructions to the letter but I only get sound but no picture when connected via the scart with the xbox cable switched to 'tv'.
(it's not a HD tv so the HD setting doesn't work) My Philips tv has a DVI connection but no HDMI so I bought a HDMI to DVI cable and guess what?
I now have PICTURE but no sound!!!
Please help, this is driving me bonkers!!
PS. I have tried the xbox on a friends HD tv and it worked perfectly.

Re: xbox connection problem
When the HDMI signal is enabled I think the sound also then travels via the HDMI cable, as DVI doesn't have any sound connections the result is silence...
Try this site for changing your audio settings and then you;ll still need to wire up the audio connectors

Re: xbox connection problem
Thanks for your reply kymmy, the problem is I can't plug in the normal xbox
cable alongside the HDMI to DVI because the ports are too close together so
I have no way of connecting the audio leads alongside the DVI..I think? !!
Any ideas??

Re: xbox connection problem
If your TV is an "HD Ready" TV, then it is an HD TV.
The TV should have an audio input near the DVI input.
Can you not get an HDMI > DVI cable which also has audio breakouts on it?
When you say you're using SCART, do you mean you're using the SCART adaptor connected to the composite phono plug (Yellow) on the AV lead?
Does your TV have component video inputs? Have you tried those with the component plugs on the AV lead? (separate red, green, & blue phonos, split off from the part with the yellow, red, & white).

Re: xbox connection problem
Thanks for your reply Matt.
My tv is a Philips 32PF9976 which unfortunately doesn't have the green red blue connections only the red white yellow.
I think you're right, I maybe need a HDMI to DVI audio leads.
Is there such a cable because I can't seem to find one?

Re: xbox connection problem
Hmm. Must be old then, to not have HDMI or component?
I've just had a quick look for an HDMI > DVI lead with audio, but not had any luck. I'm sure I've seen them before though...
The only way to use the 360's HDMI port & the AV port at the same time (so you can use HDMI and have a separate audio out) is to use the "Audio Dongle" which comes with both the 360 Elite and the official 360 HDMI cable. Unlike the normal AV lead, the audio dongle is narrower & so will fit the AV port without blocking the HDMI port.
The 360 HDMI cable is rather overpriced though...

... although you can find the dongle on eBay...
