GH III or Rock Band
Right, I have decided I want to delve into either Rock Band or Guitar Hero but dont know which one to go for. Can anyone tell me what the difference is and do you need all the instruments or can I just go for the guitar? Also If I go for one now, can I just purchase the game of the other seperatly?

Re: GH III or Rock Band
Not sure about rock band 2 but guitar hero 3 works without the guitar - so you can buy rock band 2 guitar and use it on guitar hero 3 (I think). Guitar Hero World Tour only works with the guitar and sucketh a lot. You'll have to check specifically with whatever game/guitar you'll buy as I think there are some that work on both and some that don't allegedly.
Yes, you can go with just the guitar. Drums are v hard to come by second hand though.
Guitar Hero 3 is a lot of fun. Check the list of songs to see which you're likely to prefer?

Re: GH III or Rock Band
Are you not going for GH: World Tour or RB2? If not then you can buy them separately. If you go for GH:WT, then you have to get them as a set. RB2 sell the instruments separately.

Re: GH III or Rock Band
I have both Rock Band and Guitar Hero and I personally would go for Guitar Hero as the guitar is much better than the Rock band one. The games are pretty similar the only differences is the songs on the games. You can get just the guitar for Guitar hero definately as that is what i did, not too sure about Rock Band as i got the full set when i got that. I'm also pretty sure the Guitar Hero guitar will work with Rock Band as well, so you can just buy the rock band game seperately and be able to play it. I would recommend getting the full set if you have the money, as the drums and singing are great fun also

Re: GH III or Rock Band
You can't really compare GH III with RB because GH III doesn't have the multiple instruments. If you mean GH IV, personal preference is GH IV because it's just the better brand in my opinion - I've played both GH and RB and overall prefered GH (maybe just because I've had most of the games).

Re: GH III or Rock Band
HMV were doing Guitar Hero 3 with the old guitar for £35. Don't know whether that offer is still on.

Re: GH III or Rock Band
Rock Band for me, because it seems to have a much better layout. Also the drum star power on the drums is so hard to use on Guitar Hero IV compared to Rock Band. I personally think the set list is a lot better on Rock Band and there is a lot more downloadable content.

Re: GH III or Rock Band
I prefer Rock band myself but GHWT does have a better track listing.
However if you got Rock band and the instruments then you could just pick up GHWT on its own at a later date.

GHWT drums have 3 drums and 2 symbols, as well as a bass. RB/2 has 4 drums and a bass. So would the RB/2 drums work with GHTW?

Yes they work perfectly. GHWT adapts the game if it detects the RB drums and removes one of the rows from the drums in game, and in GHWT the star power is activated by hitting the cymbols at the same time, using the RB drums that is acheived by hitting the two middle drum pads.
Rockband 2's drums which aren't out in the UK yet also have cymbols
