Position of Console

Is it better to position the XBox 360 Horizontally or Vertically?

Horizontally would give me more room, but I'm thinking about the heat that the underside will generate, I currently have it vertically and after a gaming session that side is quite warm.

I don't know for sure, but looking at mine (mounted horizontally), the largest vent appears to be on the opposite side to the hdd, so I'd say it's actually better for it.

Re: Position of Console

I would imagine the drive would be under much less strain laid flat, so that is how I've put my PS3

Re: Position of Console

I have mine vertically and always have done. All the promotional pictures from microsoft of the 360 have it vertically so they seem to advise having it that way?

Re: Position of Console

Horizontal for me, it seemed the most sensible option.

Exclamation Re: Position of Console

As a stability issue, I always have my xbox360 horizontal, I know of people who have had their xbox360 vertical and its been knocked over, destroying the game disc in the tray.

Re: Position of Console

I have mine vertical. The HDD is under less stress that way (as its mounted on the top technically [if machine is vertical])

The main vents are on the sides so if the machine was horizontal the main vents would be blocked.

To make the best of both worlds, why don't you create an aluminium heat-sink tray for it to lay horizontal in and then the heat would/could be disipated and also would have the best stability?? (that was just a random idea/suggestion with no thought put into it whatsoever )

Re: Position of Console

My mate had his original 360 vertical, until it crapped out.

He put the repaired/replacement system horizontally, and that crapped out 2 weeks ago. He's still waiting for his 3rd system.

I don't think it makes much difference, to be honest.

No they don't! This is merely marketing people always placing it a cetrain way.

Re: Position of Console

I have mine standing upright, HDD is on the bottom never caused an issue. In fact I had the red ring of death 3 times with it laying flat. Stood it up after the last time it came back and never had a problem since.

No idea

Mine usually ends up horizontal , as it sits ontop of my amp, I've yet to have a RROD that wasnt simply the hdd not on properly (my fault) it's scratched a disk before but thats about all the trouble ive had with it.

It used to end up vertical if we took it downstairs.

My house mates 360 which lives in the cuboard under the TV next to my ps3 stands vertical i think his might be a falcon since it's a premium but it does have the HDMI port (Main reason his is on the TV downstairs and mine isn't)

Re: Position of Console

I have mine laid down, I've had the RROD twice, I've only had it fixed once though. The second time I got it, it ended up working again the next day.

Re: Position of Console

Horizontal for me. The only one of my consoles which is vertical is the Wii, cos there's no room for it otherwise.

I'd be worried about my 360 falling over if I had it standing vertically, or discs getting eaten or something.

Re: Position of Console

I don't really trust the tray to hold discs securely if the console is vertical.

How many scratched discs have you had? Could be the lens AFAIK... I know some people have had disc-eating problems 'cos of faulty drives...
