360 #2 R.i.p.
After 11 months of being decidedly dodgy the refurb I got back from the repair centre has finally turned up it's red lights and gone to meet it's maker. Going to get a replacement tomorrow and put this one in the lounge when it comes back from repair... not sure whether to get an Elite, another premium or a Halo 3 one with the Falcon chipset... decisions decisions.

Yes well all that hard disc space I can fill up with nothing inparticular
Been waiting for this 360 to die... when I got it, was taking 2-3 attempts to power up and maybe a dozen attempts to close the dvd drawer but I was too lazy to send it back lol.

Re: 360 #2 R.i.p.
Well, the videomarketplace is starting soon.
I'm tempted to trade my (refurb) Premium in for an Elite mainly due to the extra heatsink & the decrease in noise.
Plus I'm worried it's gonna die like your one has.
Quieter & more reliable appeals to me more than the bigger HDD or the HDMI.

Re: 360 #2 R.i.p.
Well it seems that Elites are a bit thin on the ground at the moment so I went for the rather disgusting looking phlegm coloured Halo3 console with a free copy of PGR4 which is all good. It's not a Falcon one though because it has the heatpipe assembly on the CPU heatsink but at least the DVD drive is quieter and the drawer actually closes properly
Could have got an Elite from play.com I guess but as they use Royal Snail I wouldn't expect it so soon.

Re: 360 #2 R.i.p.
I've just got mine back after the 3 red lights. They didn't tick anything on the repair form to say what they'd done. The unit seems cleaner and a bit different to the one I sent...it's quieter, the on/off button doesn't click like it used to, and it had on of those clear plastic stick on sheets over the dvd drive. The serial no is still the same so goodness knows what they've done. I got confused when I started it up and it was set to German language, and default screen res. Refurb? If so, how did they transfer the serial no label?

Re: 360 #2 R.i.p.
Get two big towels, wrap it up and switch it on for 15 minutes. It gets nice and hot!
Unwrap the towels, power off and leave for 5 minutes.
Should work again
Brought mine to life about 6 times now!
The case is broken or I would get it back to MS for a replacement.
Was considering an Elite myself but don't like the black

Re: 360 #2 R.i.p.
Out of interest I just did a quick comparison test between hdmi and component on the new console and there's definitely a tangible difference in sharpness, particularly noticeable with dashboard and in-game text. Had to mess about with the brightness and colour profile on the tv but once that was sorted it was noticeably better.
The only thing to watch out for is that you'll need to take the audio feed out of your tv if using an external amplifier as the hdmi and HD component lead (with the audio outs) can't be attached at the same time.

Didn't you get the audio dongle with your Elite?
