No, you will not be able to play them if you have a UK 360. The only exception is if you've bought the HD-DVD add-on and you're playing HD-DVDs as they are region free.
There is software available that you could use to 'rip' the DVDs, then burn them back onto a DVD (minus the region coding) but not sure how legal this would be. Have you seen whether you can use a 'software hack' to allow you DVD player to become multi-region?
I would think you're more likely to find a region free hack for your DVD player than for an M$ XBOX 360 - M$ bang on about DRM so much, I'm sure the region coding is locked down
Google the DVD's model and 'region free' and you might find something.
There are some games which are region free (have a look at www.play-asia.com for details). Unless you get lots DVDs from US/Canada you're better off with a UK 360
Its funny they send a couple of DVDs in the past which worked but this year we ended up with about 10 DVDs none of which work. Which is a bummer as there were a few I really wanted to see and you can't get them over here.
They never seem to have a problem with any DVDs that we send to Canada.
There are plenty of players that can be unlocked.
Google suggested this site that claims to have a database of unlock codes (not tried it myself! - and apologies if the mods would prefer to remove the link!!)
Also there's an example on ebay of a 'pre-hacked' DVD player for £25!
