Re: xbox live and lag problems
Lag in Warrington area is particularly bad.
When you join a game or host a game of 6 or more players your upstream traffic increases due to the p2p nature of Xbox live games network code.
When it hits a certain point: I've measured about 18k/sec, your connection to the UBR gets hobbled. Thing is, I can hold several FTP sessions open and max out my upstream bandwidth without causing any latency problems. Looks to me like there is some kind of dodgy UDP rate control management going on at the UBR.

Careful what you say mate, it's possible BT might be worse than NTL for you, just ask Bill C!
What speeds are they saying you will get, and is there a download cap?

I dread the day my NTL turns crap, but it couldn't be better at the moment.
According to this page there isn't an unlimited option? It's a bit naff really if all you get is 40gig a month download on option 3. Also hope you don't live to far from your exchange.
I hope it works out anyway and is better than NTL for you.

As you've seen from the forum, the amount of complaints about NTL broadband has risen to astronomical proportions. I'm not going to pay 'em anymore of my hard earned cash for a complete load of rubbish. The problem of slow speeds and dropped connections won't go away, ever! Over subscribed, capped and none existent support, that's whats on offer.
At least BT offer Full support, and BT have confirmed to me that the broadband is Unlimited for the top tier. Also get a few nice little extra's including a free official wireless xbox adapter. As for the distance from the exchange I will still be getting better, faster, more reliable speeds than NTL ever could manage to supply me.
Best of luck to everyone who stays with NTL, I do hope that the problems will be sorted for you but I for one am not waiting around any longer or giving any more cash to what I think is a lost cause.

Keep us posted on how it goes - I always thought BT had usage limits. I work at home quite a bit as well as doing a fair bit of gaming so I've been looking at the Officemax package from Griffin Internet. It's 70 quid a month for a no limits unshaped 8Mb connection but I pay not far off that for NTL anyway once you put the TV on top.
