these things are usually worse. the only time a VGA box has ever improved a picture was on the DC because it had a true VGA output. these things just conver the regular rgb signal from the console to vga. They never seem to improve things. Mostly its the same or worse.

I used to connect my Dreamcast to a monitor - best display I've seen for console games. Get your point about the Xbox not having a VGA signal for use with a monitor. I'll just have to win the lottery to buy a plasma tv.

yes. thats what we're talking about. they are rotten though. the only way to get a good picture on a monitor, one thats better than you'd get on the telly, is if you console has a true VGA output to start with. The DC used a PC graphics card (videologic I think) which had tv out and vga out. It meant that you could get true VGA graphics on ur monitor from the DC.

With a converter, your starting with a PAL or RGB output, and converting that to VGA, but its source is still the lower image quality of the PAL/RGB output. With the DC the souce was VGA to begin with, your not converting anything.

There are loads of techy sites on the net explaining the ins and outs of these things, and why, usually, you find things visually poorer rather than sharper and more defined.

Yeah... I'm after a plasma TV, probably next year.
