ntl 750k live lags
we have 750k ntl (well my dad does) and my bro has his xbox connected to it but if anyone else does anything else on the internet then live gets really laggy
just me surfing the web is sometimes enough to make my bros ping go into the red.... anything that can be done
are ntl going to increase the upstream with the next bout of speed increses.

Don't use the net on the PC at the same time as XBL
Although surfing shouldn't really affect it much...

He won't get it even though you've offered to pay the difference?!

Re: ntl 750k live lags
It's worth a try!
It's not like he has to spend any more, seeing as you said you'd pay the extra.
And he may find he prefers the 1.5mb service once he tries it.

Re: ntl 750k live lags
I've always been on the largest NTL pipe I could buy... the old 1MB and the new 1.5MB... (basically cause my work paid for it! )
Anyway, since leaving my last employer...I've had to pay for it myself!...so I looked into and decided to test the cheap notch down...these days it being the 750K...
I've been on the 750K for about 1-2 months now...and I honestly have not noticed any difference AT ALL!!!...either on Xbox Live or PC gaming or even...normal day to day surfing
I have 3 computers in my house, my box, the wife's box (now now calm down! ) and my email exchange....along with my Xbox... even with the wife surfing I've not seen any lag on my XBL!
I would suggest looking at the PC usage more closely cause the 750K line should be ok for you. What does the PC get used for when you are gaming, ....if it's anything other than normal page surfing such as downloading large video files or JPGs ...then I'd suggest you tell you Dad to keep his habits confined to non-gaming times
Anyway, the 750K bit is not the important bit...it's the upload that matters...in NTL's case we're all confined to the nominal 256K upload.

cept its 128k on the 750k package
and i dont know what he was doing think just surfing and downloading various software updates.
and i can't really tell my dad what he can and cant do on the internet after all its him who pays for it for himself he didnt have to go out and buy the router.etc so i could also be on it its just annoying that it seems to be so laggy even when one other person is online....
my bro moans at me saying i make him lag when all i do is open up firefox and load cableforum or some such site...!!!!
although i do tend to leave thunderbird open checking email regularly and chat on msn messenger...

Re: ntl 750k live lags
Again I'm on 750K and don't have a lag issue...
Some questions... it has been known that different parts of the country have different perforamce ratings and hence lag issues...where are you based, ish?
Have you always expereinced lag, or is it a recent issue? If only recent, what has changed recently, i.e. new software on machine or new router...
What's your network spec?, mainly which router? ..and you're not connecting to the net via a USB network adapter are you?

dunno how recently, i only recently started playing on live myself my bro says he gets lag sometimes usally when other ppl are using the net...
area is bainsingstoke in hapmshire
router is smc wireless 802.11b with printserver its has got wep on it.etc so i know its not that.... Connection for xbox is Xbox > belkin switch/hub > router > internet
on the hub is the router and my desktop pc, it then goes from hub via 100mbit wired lan to the room next door where the router is..
dunno could it be packetloss somewhere thats causing the lag?

Re: ntl 750k live lags
I am also on 750k And i rarely get any lag what-so-ever! and when i do its no more than 5 seconds of it. i dont have a router however so do not have ther computer turned on at the same time as the xbox so maybe thats why. But my friend has 750k with arouter and he rarely gets lag.

Re: ntl 750k live lags
me and a mate was playing on live (day off work for me YAY) and my dad came online and it still ran fine so its now that another thought has struck me
bro always plays in evenings/weekends as he goes to school during the day
im wandering if its more down to the times he plays e.g when most people are going to be at home online?
