Modem Connection prolems..(x-box)
Firstly i would like to apologise if this is not the correct place to ask or post this so im sorry for that . I just changed my internet from the Digi box to the Modem so i could play xbox live, All was wellt he technician arrived and swapped it over and all was well.....Then around...4 or 5 days ago ive constantly gotten the message xbox live is not responding please try again later....When i troubleshoot the issue the error im getting is that it cant connect to the DNS servers. I dont really understand much about this sort of thing i was wondering if i could seek help here before i actually phoned up NTl. (for all i know it could be the smallest of problems and i dont want to waste their time.) Im connected with the Ethernet connection...The DNS server address which i have used and connected to live on many occasions is 194.168.4.100 I assume this is correct im not sure. I did try to contact NTl on one occation however it was around 8:30 and it was closed, I do remember a message...Something about postcodes bah im not sure. Id be greatfull if anybody here could help me with this problem. I would liek to apologise in advance if this is nothing to do with NTL and it is my x-box or whatever. Thank you.
EDIT: Sorry i didnt notice there was a whole section devoted to xbox

Re: Modem Connection prolems..(x-box)
Just tried pinging the IP address you're quoting and it doesn't seem to exist. This may be a red herring though, perhaps you can't ping DNS servers - anybody?

Re: Modem Connection prolems..(x-box)
Don't know much about XBox I'm afraid.
Have you tried re-booting the Cable Modem at alll? Just unplug the power cable, turn off your XBox, leave a while, plug the CM back in, let the lights settle, turn XBox back on.

Sorry, that was all I had - hopefully someone will be along soon who know more about these things. In the meantime, enjoy the other threads

Re: Modem Connection prolems..(x-box)
If you also have a computer, connect that in place of the X-Box. Open a command window and type
ipconfig /all
This will give you the IP address to use for the DNS server.
(Taken from the link given by carlingman).
Note that you'll need to reboot the modem as you connect each device (computer and X-Box).
Alternatively, I'm sure someone can post a suitable DNS IP address here for you.
[Edit] Just found this, which should tell you everything.

Re: Modem Connection prolems..(x-box)
*Moved to XBox forum*
So you definitely do not have the ntl broadband & console service, & you're just trying a simple direct connection?
Have you tried the info in my thread JohnHorb linked to earlier?
Are you only specifying one DNS address in the XBox? The primary DNS server is 194.168.8.100 - if you are going to specify DNS servers, rather than let the XBox obtain them automatically, then you should also specify 194.168.8.100 as well as 194.168.4.100. But, you may as well simply set the XBox to pick up the DNS server automatically.
Is the XBox set to obtain an IP address automatically?

Re: Modem Connection prolems..(x-box)
If you have connected everything right and your cable modem ethernet light is not flashing then it is the cable modem. you have to ring up for a replacement at xbox live support service, but they wont help you if you don't join their £2 a month service. This happened to me twice it's a common fault of the modems. I'm sure it won't happen again because they have upgraded their modems. Once everything ok just cancel the £2 service
