Got this of the 'Xbox Technical Issues FAQ' so I can have DTS but can someone explaine

Thanks

1. Insert the Advanced AV Pack or HD AV Pack into your Xbox while it is off
2. Connect your optical cable to your HD AV Pack or Advanced AV Pack, and your Dolby Digital Receiver
3. Turn on your Xbox on without a disc in the drive
4. Select the settings menu
5. Select audio
6. Enable Dolby Digital, Dolby Surround, and DTS (if your receiver supports DTS)
7. Press Ok

1. means in easy to understand terms? What is Advanced AV Pack or HD AV Pack?

Re: Help with 'Xbox Technical Issues FAQ'

Look further down the FAQ, it shows links

The Xbox Advanced AV Pack allows integration between the Xbox video game system and televisions or receivers that utilize optical digital audio input for Dolby Digital playback, as well as S-Video input.

Or in other words, its a cable with an adapter that converts the AV signal to optical.
Looks like this.

Available here.

Or the Xbox High Definition AV Pack connects the console to most TVs with interlaced component video inputs including high definition ready TVs that support 480i and either 480p, 720p or 1080i component video signals. Look for HDTV support on Xbox game packages. Movie playback is in 480i only.

This pack also supports digital or surround sound audio receivers. Sound system with Dolby Digital decoding and a fiber optic cable required to enable Dolby Digital sound. Sound system with Dolby Pro Logic decoding required to enable Dolby Surround sound. (Additional cables and sound systems sold separately.) High definition ready television required to enable high definition features.

Looks like this (and cost $19 ish)

Re: Help with 'Xbox Technical Issues FAQ'

You need the XBox Advanced SCART lead (either the official MS one, or a 3rd party one) to get DD/DTS 5.1 sound from the XBox. It also outputs RGB via the SCART plug, rather than crappy composite video like the bog-standard SCART lead you get with the XBox.

The digital audio output is unfortunately optical (toslink) rather than coax - so you must have a decoder/amp with a spare optical input (although you can get converters if you only have a spare coax input).

The HD (High Definition) pack can only be used with US XBoxes (unless you have a modded XBox).
