0.48MB? Should it be faster?

I am on the smallest NTL package and getting this;

Thu, 6 Jul 2006 14:42:34 UTC

1st 512K took 8531 ms = 60 KB/sec, approx 494 Kbps, 0.48 Mbps
2nd 512K took 8672 ms = 59 KB/sec, approx 486 Kbps, 0.47 Mbps
3rd 512K took 8656 ms = 59.1 KB/sec, approx 487 Kbps, 0.48 Mbps
4th 512K took 8703 ms = 58.8 KB/sec, approx 485 Kbps, 0.47 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 488 Kbps, 0.48 Mbps

My uncle who lives on the same street has had his 2MB broadband upgraded to 4MB, and I thought I was meant to be upgraded to 1MB.
This is definatly running slow anyway, I should be on 750Kbps without the upgrade.
I have restarded my box numerous times, the last time I did it I turned off my firewall (Nvidia Firewall).

Is there any other things I should try?

Re: 0.48MB? Should it be faster?

I don't think the 512k users (like the 1mb) users got an upgrade.

edit - ntl do 512k - 1mb - 4mb and 10mb NOT 750k as far as I know.

Well NTL upgraded my connection before from 512k to 1MB, but I rung them up and said I didnt want it, as it was capped at 3GB a month, so they said we'll put you on 750K without a cap.

Got a letter about 2 months ago saying I was being upgraded to 1MB unlimited for free. It also says '1MB Unlimited' on the bill.

Also sorry for the double post I forgot to add my recent ping outbursts.

When I play CS : Source, I get pings of 20-30 when playing, however I get bad outbursts of 400-600, I completely lag out for about 10 seconds.

Its fustrating as I get kicked from half of the servers which have a ping limit.

If you're supposed to be on 1mb you need to phone customer services back - 'cos those results look like 512kb to me....

I know this is possibly a silly question but you did reboot your modem after being upgraded?

Yea, CS isnt stable anymore

I have not had any problems before, and i havent altered any internet settings or any settings for that matter - if its not broken dont fix it.

Re: 0.48MB? Should it be faster?

According to the guy I was talking to, he said they monitored my outgoing/ingoing connection and used too much connectivity. Therefore I was downgraded WITHOUT WARNING to 512KBps, may I add I only signed up to NTL as it was unlimited.

I have been put up to 1MB now anyway;

Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 1024000Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 100000

So I am happy now

---------- Post added at 11:29 ---------- Previous post was at 11:28 ----------

Oh and thanks for you advice people.

Re: 0.48MB? Should it be faster?

The 750k connection was never cap free, i think it was 1gig a day or 30gig a month so that might explain you getting downgraded if you were downloading 100s of gigs a month.

Glad you got it sorted though.
