Terayon modems incompatible with last Wednesday's modem update

I now have a shiny new 250 modem on my 2Mb connection. Engineer said that nobody at NTL bothered to check whether the update would be compatible with older modems before rolling it out last Wednesday. Older modems are suffering massive packet loss as a result. Broadband support know nothing of this fault when I spoke to them today.

Apparently - so the engineer tells me - there was a modem update rolled out last week, some sort of firmware I'd expect. It didn't work with my Terayon TeraJet210 hence the sudden drop in speed I was getting, caused by it dropping packets.

Umm not all modems download all updates they only download the ones intended for them, so it's rather hard to flash the whole lot. If a single firmware for the ntl branded modems were sent to all modems the Terayons and Motorolas would do a little more than just drop packets they'd fall over and not work at all.

Methinks the engineer did not know what he was talking about on that one.

A bad update to the Terayons wouldn't have happened don't think their firmware has been updated in ages.

The poor guy just made this up - I hope the new modem solves the problem - it may well have a higher upstream potential.

There hasn't been any change to my Terayon (on 10Mbps)!

The only problem i have seen with the Terayon is when the qam is changed to 256 from 64 the Terayon works for a short while then dies and reboots .Lincoln and Newark is the last time i saw this

My Terajet 210 worked really well with 10 mbps speeds and i`ve just downgraded to 2 mbps hoping for 4 mbps very soon.! There`s life in the old faithful dog yet!
