unable to access www.match.com

Hi,

I have been unable to access the www.match.com website for the past 4 days. It works from my friend's BT broadband line, and from my work internet, but when I go to the website I get redirected to an error page:
http://uk.match.com/errors/maintenancearea.aspx

Typing http://uk.match.com goes to the same error page.

Trying some of the foreign versions of the site, e.g. http://id.match.com load the home page correctly - unfortunately I can't login to the site through the other region home pages.

I'd be grateful if another NTL user could try to open www.match.com to verify if it is an NTL-wide problem.

I have already reported this to NTL on the phone Saturday morning...

Also I just found an article on here about manually changing the proxy server, so I tried that, and it has the same problem on the random selection of 4 that I tried.

Pete.

Re: unable to access www.match.com

Works fine here so may not be a NTL wide problem. You may have just hit proxies with the same problem.

Re: unable to access www.match.com

Hi Paul, I just tried a lot more of them, about 20, and I always get redirected to that error page.

What I don't know is if the problem is with my computer or the internet. Is there anyway I can identify if there is some problem with that website from my computer? I don't know if the tracert below is of any help...

Thanks, Pete.

Re: unable to access www.match.com

Thanks Stuart

I spoke to NTL again this morning, and they suggested that spyware was causing this problem and to run ad-aware. I was skeptical but did it anyway - no problems found except cookies.

Then on asking again, they said that it was not NTL's responsibility to support websites. However I said that I was not convinced it is the website because it works on other people's NTL, and on BT Broadband, and on my work internet. Also, I don't believe it is my machine because everything else on the net works ok, and I haven't installed anything or changed any settings between it working and not working.

They said I should contact the website which I have done, but I suspect they will say there is no fault at their end. So... then what do I do ? It must be someone's responsibility? What can I do to troubleshoot and resolve this?

Other things I thave tried already:
- powering off computer and modem
- disabling Zonealarm security suite (the website worked before with this)
- using the Firefox browser

Any advice very welcome!
Thanks, Pete.

Just FYI there's nothing interesting or identifiable about those first couple of IP addresses, yes someone who is clever could trace the guy to the uBR he sits on but that's all, so no harm at all in the 10. address or the t2cam address being there.

To OP - there's nothing wrong with your PC else you wouldn't be able to traceroute to the site in question, that's just ntl tech support not wanting to deal with the problem. Looks more like a proxy issue, try a different one from a list of ntl proxies.

If you're still not getting any joy then come back to us, sounds like you were just unlucky and picked proxies that can't get the site either.

Re: unable to access www.match.com

Yay! Its working again now!

Funny how it suddenly works again, without anyone saying they fixed anything. Still, its working now, and that's the main thing!

Thanks for helping.

Hmm... and to why I would want to go on that site?
