New Modem Question

Hi,

I am having my old Motorola SB3100 replaced on Saturday with a new 250 one (I guess).
Will I need to re-register the new modems MAC address, if so what it the site for doing this please?

Thanks in advance.

No you won't chuck, the modem will be swopped over automatically on the system

Re: New Modem Question

i just had mine swapped out and it didnt work. i had to phone support and they said the engineer should have rang in when he installed it. they had to take my old mac out of my account and add the new one. also, before the swap I was on 10meg (admittedly only getting 4 or 5 mbps) and after i was back down to 3 again! another lengthy phone call and im on 10 again.

only getting 3mbps from newshosting.com, but speedtest and modem config shows 10mb

Just run a test download of 100 meg average speed 980kB. Could be a problem local to you.

380 would suggest 3 meg config

can you pm me your your mac address the mods can confirm i work for NTL

Re: New Modem Question

Same problem here with EasyNews & AstraWeb.

No change in my settings, but slow download speeds around 70K-100K, still get this now on 10Mbit (running at 8Mbit).

The engineer who swapped out mine said he would phone in the new mac address and get it changed over on my account - told me to give it an hour. An hour and a half later still no access so I had to phone TS myself. Started off giving the new mac address - hang on a minute I was told. Then, did you just have broadband installed? No I had a new modem put in. Can you give me the old mac address? Yes I'll just get the modem. No not the new modem, the old modem please. I have the old modem - i'll read it to you.

Obviously didn't understand why I had the old modem ( it was my own, bought many years ago ) but after another wait of about 20 minutes, he told me to reboot the modem and the pc. I rebooted the modem, not the PC and finally I had access again.

Obviously the engineer hadn't done what he was supposed to but then I don't think he understood why I had a bought modem either. He said my modem was as old as he was!
