Arrow Is my router in the way?

Hi,

I suspect the answer to this question is: Yes. But I'm going to check anyway.

I have been supplied the 10MB "upgrade" twice now. Both times I was advised my modem (Motorolla Surfboard 4100) would reset. But if it didn't, then I was to switch off the modem for a "couple of minutes", then switch it back on and I would be on 10MB.

Unfortunately it hasn't happened like that. My cable modem is plugged into my router WRT54G which is obviously connected to my main system.

Is this the reason for the "upgrades" being unsuccessful? If so, can I just plug the cable modem into my main system, reboot it and I shall be "upgraded", or do I have to call tech support to re-send me the configuration file?

Thanks.

Re: Is my router in the way?

The router should have no effect on the modem. I suggest you call CS and explain that you have asked twice and have not yet been upgraded, and that you would like it done while you are on the phone call.

This might persuade them to do it. Make them wait while you go and reset your modem.

The simple way to be 100% sure is to remove the router frrom the equation.

That's good to know. Thanks AbyssUnderground. I shall do just that.

Ahh you're so right. Unfortunately, being a little bit chair bound prevents me from climbing over things to get into those places that are ideal for putting small gadgets like errr a router for instance into.

My thinking was that if it was the router, I could ask a mate to do the deed so to speak and I wouldn't have to bother those nice people at Tech Support.
