Buying a NTL 250 Modem
Hi,
Have seen a NTL 250 model modem for sale. Assuming it is all working correctly could I simply replace my current NTL 120 modem with this new one ? Do the modems have to be registered with NTL ?
Thanks

Re: Buying a NTL 250 Modem
wont work....only NTL engineers are able to install the modems as they need to assign the MAC address to your account, and NTL dont let you do this yourself.

Re: Buying a NTL 250 Modem
why would you want to replace your modem? If you really did want to upgrade it then ask NTL to do it and pay them for a new one!

Re: Buying a NTL 250 Modem
The reason for the question was :
I have upgraded my speed to 10 meg and did not want to wait for the free roll out of the new modems. My current modem (Model 120) does not support 10 meg but the newer model 250 does.

Re: Buying a NTL 250 Modem
as far as I know it does support 10meg provided it has received a firmware upgrade. there's a thread somewhere talking about modems re 10meg. and there's also this recent post:-

Re: Buying a NTL 250 Modem
Do not think the firmware is available for the 120....yet..... unless I have missed this information.
Have I missed something ?

I think you might be right judging by the last comments on this thread.

Re: Buying a NTL 250 Modem
The 120's are being upgraded to new firmware - possibly in batches - so not all may have been done yet.
