Ethernet Problems.
Hello, I have been using the USB connection with my Terayon TJ210 up until now, and I would like to switch to Ethernet (I'm planning on installing wireless for Christmas).
When I plug in the ethernet the green "PC" light on the modem does not light up (Power and Cable do light up) and my network connection shows it's searching for an address, eventually it says something about my connection is limited or no existant.
I have tried uninstalling USB drivers, switching off PC and modem for a few minutes before plugging the ethernet in, ipconfig /release /renew (it says it cannot contact DCHP), etc. So far nothing has worked.
I thought it may have been the ethernet port on the modem, but I have used it before, a long time ago, and it worked fine (perhaps it's broken since then?).
Perhaps it's a problem with the PC ethernet card - I have an ASRock Combo-Z motherboard with OnBoard LAN - if that helps. I have ordered a new motherboard, so maybe it will work with it when it arrives.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Ethernet Problems.
I had exactly the same problem with my Terayon JT210.
Tried three different ethernet cards with no joy.
Turned out that my Terayon had a fault, so it was replaced with a new modem.

have you made sure that the onboard lan is enabled in the bios and trhe drivers have been installed? and surely it would be cheaper and easier to order a nic than anew mobo?

I have ensured the LAN is enabled in the bios and drivers are installed.
I was ordering the new motherboard anyway for PCI-Express.

Re: Ethernet Problems.
Have you tried another ethernet cable? Also, is your ethernet port (on the PC) able to detect if it is connected to a device wanting a point to point connection or not. Best bet is to try the original ethernet cable that came with the modem if you still have it?

Re: Ethernet Problems.
It might be you need a crossed cable, or the oposite way round, if possible get hold of one of those small plastic adapaters ntl had around, i still have mine, great for troubleshooting network issues.

Re: Ethernet Problems.
I have two cables and both give the same effect. I tried installing the modem on another PC and laptop, the green LED on the ethernet card lit up, but again the PC LED on the modem did not light. I'm beginning to think it might be the modem afterall.
If it is the modem do you think NTL would be willing to replace it, even though it's a few years old? How long do you think it would take for them to replace it?
The reason I want to use ethernet now is because I'm setting up a wireless network, for my dad, for Christmas. So I take it that if the ethernet doesn't work when the modem is directly connected, it's not going to work through a router either?

Re: Ethernet Problems.
your dads probably right and ntl will swap out you modem no probs for a new ntl 250 (careful they are tiny). They will want to do this anyway as your modem will have been upgraded anyway during 2006 as part of thier speed upgrade program. They will be wanting as many as possible swapped out before that starts.

Re: Ethernet Problems.
So I rang NTL and the technical support guy told me that the modem should be fine, since I'm getting a 169 IP when the white cable is not connected.
He said the modem was still trying to lock onto the USB, so I need to leave it for a few hours for it to be able to lock onto my ethernet.
Does this sound feasible?

Yes also switch off the modem and reboot after a few minutes should work

I tried doing that but it never worked. I'm going to leave it for a few more hours (days maybe?) and try it again.

Re: Ethernet Problems.
You will not need to leave it off for hours. I changed from USB to ethernet and only powered off the modem for a couple of minutes. When I powered it back up it connected fine via the ethernet.
Call TS again, it sounds like they need to change it. If they still say leave it off for hours, jsut tell them you have and still doesn't work.
