10-50% Packet loss! :(

Phoned NTL cable modem tech support for the first time in about 2 years expecting to speak to a friendly and knowledgable welsh bloke. It seems there's no more of that. The guy says I need to get the account holder to ring up and arrange an engineer. :@

My connection is absolutely battered as of yesterday and it is totally wrecking my throughput. I'm on the 2 Mb service with an Ambit 100 and now lucky to see more than 30 K off anything.

Anyway, the guy on the phone just said call an engineer out but didn't even seem to make any reasonable effort like the old tech support people did, so I had a little investigation myself and managed to find the log page. (Why have they hidden it!? - http://192.168.100.1/P_log.htm for anyone wondering, what a guess!)

Code:

Don't understand this forum.... people moan that tech support spend too much time investigating pc issues and not sending engineers, and people moan that it's decided an engineer is needed to quickly

/mutters crazy things to himself and then goes back to sit in his corner.

Re: 10-50% Packet loss! :(

thanks for the url nice to see a log, mine has the snmp error also I would ignore that, it might be something to do with the new firmware blocking snmp now.

I got this error with 35 counts, first occurance 17 aug 2000 (i wasnt on ntl then O_O) and last occurance 9 oct 2005

R02.0 No Ranging Response received, T3 time-out

Re: 10-50% Packet loss! :(

Downstream SNR sucks the botty, upstream transmit is maxing out. Those of you who've been here a while shame on you, I did a thread on acceptable power levels and this chap is well outside them!

This link is heavily attenuated, at a guess no noise just attenuation making the wanted signals too weak, needs an engineer to come and check it out.

Tech support were spot on. Can't complain about this, they could have made you go through a load of scripted PC checks but didn't

Ignition I dont upload much, but dont know if you was reffering to my error or not. I also have upload capped via netlimiter so if I have to upload anything my capacity isnt maxed so my ssh sessions dont lag.

By upstream transmit I was referring to OP's 61dBmV transmit power on his modem.
