100M : Firefox misreporting speed tests?

I have had a coincidental problem whilst seeking a fix for an up speed issue.

CS revealed to me that they have had problems with some Firefox users getting inaccurate speed test results when visiting speedtest.net and other servers. Here is some evidence.

Through Firefox 14.0



Through IE9



I began to get this effect when I upgraded to Firefox 13.00 last week. The effect is repeated on my other machines.

Any ideas / solutions?

Both report the same on 10Mbps.

Speedtest.net is a flash based tester what do you see if you compare the browsers using a java based test such as http://mcslhr.visualware.com/myspeed..._capspeed.html - I've no idea if that one is capable of testing 100Mbps though.

This is mine using Firefox 13. 60M connection.

Firefox works fine for me. But then, I'm not on VM and my Firefox doesn't have to deal with VM congestion.

39.12 mbps on firefox on virgin media and internet explorer 56.90 mbps so firefox slowing down connection on virgin media problem may be server you are connected re-ran with milton keynes server not birmingham server and found speed went up to 59.00 Mbps so it may be which server you use

Meh. Firefox gives me the most accurate results. This whole thread is flawed.

I've had issues with Firefox and yesterday, I uninstalled it, deleted all the plugins that had downloaded and reinstalled it. So far, it seems to have made a difference, in particular to the amount of time taken for it to become available to input after loading.

This is using IE (had to install Java because I have not used IE since forever)

I find that since updating to firefox 13, flash applications seem to grind to a halt

A bit OT but my tbb meter has been giving wrong speeds for a while. Appears to be double real speed.

What version of Firefox are you running? Until Firefox 13.0 I got a perfect 104Mb every time. I always use speedtest.net London NAMESCO.


So it appears we are getting a mixed picture at this point. Bear in mind that I am reporting a pattern highlighted by Virgin Media customer services and a complete change of trend from the usual pattern for me.

That one also gave me a solid 104Mb until Firefox 13.0

Just now gave me 59.86 in Firefox and 104.41 in IE9.

I'd start by disabling any add-ons you may have in Firefox and see if that makes any difference.
