New Router

I am thinking of getting a New Router to work alongside the SH.

I have seen the following is this any good?

Re: New Router

yes but so is a cheap D Link 615 for the 2.4GHz band only, tenna ebay. if your willing to spend 40quid on the 2.4GHz band alone then I'm sure you've got a little more to future proof yourself.

Asus RT-N56U or RT-N66U. Or Linksys high end routers.

Already have a D Link 615. Wanted something more future proof. Money is not that big of an issue.

Will have a look at the Asus range.

Have you got any links for Linksys high end routers?

Re: New Router

I can vouch for the ASUS RT-N16. I have one running Tomato open source firmware, and it's pretty good.

60quid for 2.4GHz only is way too much

Re: New Router

Probably par for the course with a router with a gigabit switch and 300Mbps WiFi I would have thought. TP-Link is significantly cheaper though.

Re: New Router

I've got the Asus RT-N56U and the Asus USB-N53. Must say they're spot on - can download at full speed (60Mb), stream video, copy files about and run a backup at the same time with no problems what so ever.

A word of caution - the 5GHz signal drops off quicker than the 2.4GHz so down the garden I change to 2.4GHz, but round the house the signal is great. Also, at the moment I'm the only person with a 5GHz network in a congested 2.4GHz area.

Cheers

Grim

Re: New Router

Grim just a question about the N56 when looking at the Client list (hitting the refresh button) it lists about 20 IP's then drops off to connected clients but it can be spinning for ages before actually showing which client is connected and sometimes it only shows the IP and not the name of the client and in some cases I have to refresh a few times to show all connected clients.

Do you have the same problem at all?

It does look a bit buggy. I can ping the devices I know are connected and the 'phantom' connections I cant. However I've got 7 devices connected and when I do a refresh at the moment it's only showing 4 connected though all 7 have an internet connection.

Its been spinning for about 30 mins now, so until its fixed in a firmware update I think I'll ignore that function!!

Cheers

Grim

Re: New Router

I'd probably vote for the E4200. I've got the E3000 running DD-WRT and it's an excellent router.
