Whats the pros about staying with vm over infinity? Is it cheaper? because ping times, jitter and upload speed all trump vm. Who needs 100meg download speeds really?

Yes it would be cheaper to stay with VM. Not enough cheaper to tempt me though.

100mb i think is abit overkill, when u can improve so many other things about your service. trialing adsl line atm because if i can get near 20mb, then i think i might, cancel VM

downstream line atten is 32db and up 16 on a 12snr i can get 12mb down. so 6snr i shud get 16+

Re: VMNG300 on 100MB - For Information

****, I've ordered a Superhub and its being delivered in 2 Tuesday's time... self installation though, so I could just not install it, VM won't stop my use of VMNG300 until I connect up the Superhub?

maybe cheaper for the net but on landline costs VM is very uncompetitive so its best to look at it as a package.

As it turns out I need upload speeds soon, so my move to FTTC will also be about upload speeds as well as jitter performance.

Even when Virgin Media eventually roll out 120Mbit (to existing 100Mbit subscribers), at a 10:1 ratio the upload speed will be no more than 12Mbit. I'm already getting 15Mbit from FTTC. Perhaps Virgin Media should start to reconsider their upload speeds.

Vonage. £6 a month includes callerid + other goodies. Save £3 to ditch VM line and £2 for their callerid and you have virtually unlimited calls to geographic numbers for £1 a month. 0870 etc. not free but not exorbitant either plus saynoto0870 helps.

Shame about the jitter on VM but most of the time it's good - just don't try calling when caning the downloads.

Re: VMNG300 on 100MB - For Information

When i had the SuperHub i signed up to the Firmware beta test R35 which was then abandon by VM after they discovered some problem. Anyway lastweek i had my old VMNG300 reactivated. Today i got an email from VM saying that i've been selected for the R36 beta firmware which will be rolled out on the 19th. Now i dont know what improvements or features are going to be in this beta firmware anyone have any ideas?

Re: VMNG300 on 100MB - For Information

I doubt that anyone has a clue as to the possible outcome of the trial, that would be why it's a trial. We can only hope (pray?) that it's less broken than the current iteration. I'm not holding my breath

I know that. But my question was what would the features in the beta firmware be. I found my answer anyway. For those that want to know its.

Updated wireless drivers.

A fix for issues with the Blizzard Downloader and other multi threaded download applications.

General improvements related to the Super Hub rebooting or resetting to factory settings.

A fix for iPlayer problems on the XBox 360.

An updated GUI for the admin screen.

Re: VMNG300 on 100MB - For Information

afaik it is because your modem isnt banging out enough upstream power to establish a connection with the cmts and it should restart the process and incrementally increase the upstream power till the cmts tells it everything is okay
