It may be outdated, but at least it does it's job, which is more than i can say for the SuperSlug. That thing needs to be discontinued and replaced ASAP with a unit which provides first class routing and a modem which doesn't add additional jitter onto the line.

Which is exactly why I advocate getting a mainstream piece of kit that everyone will recognise just as Telewest used to do when they only ever bought Scientific Atlanta and Motorola modems before the merger with NTL who went down the Ambit route to cut costs, even though they did at one time supply Motorola modems up to the SB4100.

I dont want to be too optimistic but if they are willing to buy more vmng300s (when after all this time we have been told they were end of line and the company had run out) hopefully they'll defo look at 8 channel firmware for it and maybe, just maybe, look at getting a 16 channel version.
After all my whining about the ming mongs who continue to push forward with the shub, I praise the dude who obviously takes pride in his job and cares about performance and customer service. I am almost tempted to sign up to the VM forums and say thanks.
If they can get hold of another 100,000 modems I would love to see them being offered as standard cpe for connectivity and then an upgrade option being offered (yes I know it is a downgrade) for the shub as a combi modem/router. At least then peeps will have the choice and we will all be happy that having something decent is an option.

AFAIK: The VMNG300 will never recieve 8 channels firmware as it only has a 4x4 tuner..

When they screwed me over with my 100mbit upgrade I had to spend all afternoon talking to every tom. dick and harry begging to get it back and everyone told me that it gets scanned and sent to "the shed" and from there it gets sent to the "the big shed" and they can never come out of it "sounds like an under cover CIA op if you ask me". So the fact that they are taking the good ones (mine was in absolute mint condition, you would think it was brand new) are dishing them back out is great given your previous assertions in the past that they are being swapped over for the shub no matter what and VM arent interested in them.
somebody in the know has defo said on this forum that t can support 8 channels, it just needs a firmware update for it.

The chipset CAN support 8 channels, but it needs a tuner to accompany it.. and as far as I can find it's a 4 x 4... If you can get me internal shots of the VMNG I'd be able to confirm :p

Re: VMNG300 on 100MB - For Information
Ok guys just got off the phone with VM and after getting passed on to a couple departments i got the VMNG300 reactivated.
Here's a speedtest, bare in mind i never had any issues with download speed with the SuperHub.
But where i did use to have issues is with pingtest. Now i get...
My ThinkBroadband monitor is looking better to. Before the chunky red line is the SuperHub, after is the VMNG300.

If it gets raised to the complaints department you should be successful.

Re: VMNG300 on 100MB - For Information
and I am sure the same can be said for everyone else who has got one. I took great pleasure it telling VM that when they forcibly took it away from me last year and forced a shub on me which I had to ring tech support about straight away. My old one performed flawlessly.

Re: VMNG300 on 100MB - For Information
I got mine originaly with the 50mb service, then upgraded down the phone to the 100mb and it just sit's there rock solid! I even run a web server from home off the back of my Virgin service and that's never fell over....not once ever!
I will not, ever, under no circumstance accept a s/hub......no mater what Virgin say. Those with the kit know how solid it is

Re: VMNG300 on 100MB - For Information
The VMNG300 which i've had reactivated today is the one i got back in Nov/2009 when i upgraded to 50Mb. I really appreciate what a great piece of kit it is.
