down stream channels
Hi is there anyway to check if my area (NG19) has been upgraded to more more than 4 ? i understand this is currently happening ?
i ask because my superhub has just arrived and i cannot decide whether to use it now wait a little and continue to use the VMNG300 which is giving me reported speeds of 105, i understand that the SH will work better when the upgrade has happened.

Re: down stream channels
are there any gaps in your current downstream readings, i.e. 1, 2, 4, 5?

You understand wrong. It may handle a congested area better, but the VMNG300 should be able to motor along at full whack for a while before that becomes an issue. Much better to stick with what you know works now than to jump to a device that has plenty of question marks surrounding it, especially when its so difficult to go back to the VMNG300.

Re: down stream channels
that's what i was thinking to be honest, if i had known it was my old router causing the slow speeds not the modem i would never have sent for it in the first place.

Re: down stream channels
well luckily for you you havent crossed over to the dark side yet. It doesnt matter whether they have sent you a shub or not, you are under no obligation to register it. While you have got the vmng300 I wouldnt even use the shub in modem mode. As Skie said, it will handle 120mbits no probs and will continue to out perform the shub.

What! Even when they swap over to 8 channels?

depends what performance you are measuring, as the VMNG gives lower ping & jitter, most applications run from VMNG will outperform those on the superhub

Yup, i am talking about performance based on current tiers. Increasing the available number of channels in an area will allow the shub users to load balance across more channels and thus reduce the congestion on each individual channel which will in turn bdnefit the 4 channels vmng users are using. I admit that once we approach the 160mbit+ mark that it might be struggling a bit but i am hoping that they will have written some 8 channel firmware by then.

Re: down stream channels
Got to back mon General on this. Stay with the VMNG300 till you're forced not to.

Re: down stream channels
thanks dude. I can see the next speed increase being around 150mbits and I am going to keep my vmng300 for it no matter what they say. I might even take a couple of screen dumps of some downloads and email them to the bleb who said it couldn't do above 92

Euro DOCSIS3 channels can supply 50 Mbit/s each.
The reason VM are using them now is for load balancing, rather than to supply higher speeds. Of course it means the Superhub is capable of delivering 400meg speeds (in theory if the thing isnt as CPU bound as we expect), but by the time that is available I suspect VM will have replaced it with a more capable bit of kit.
These are of course all theoretical maximums, but VM shouldnt be that far off them. The VMNG300 is more than capable of handling over 100meg.
