Question Coax Cable

Hi Everyone (first post so you know the rules, be nice to me)

I have 100mb installed and the engineer gave me a tiny 1m bit of cable that goes from the wall to the super hub, could some one please tell me the name of the stuff and if 15m length will cause any loss? I have about 15m of the stuff from years ago when I had 20mb installed, will this stuff be the same? (generous engineer, lol)

Any help would be good, thanks!

Re: Coax Cable

there are different types of coax cable and the grade used for installations these days is RG6. You can have a look here

Re: Coax Cable

You need to be aware however, that extending the cable yourself is technically against VirginMedias terms of service. By all means, go ahead and do it, just bear in mind if something goes wrong (what can go wrong, really, lol), they can hit you for some quite high fee's to fix the problem.

Well if you extend the line too much you could lower your power levels, if they are already low, you'll bring your service down or cripple it

Re: Coax Cable

hard to buy the VM spec cable in the shops.

Digital, and Sat cable despite working is not an equivalent cable.. as it is dual shielded.. VM stuff is Tri shielded.

easiest place ive found to source a similar spec cable is eBay, and the only cable ive found that matches this spec is HD100 by webro, nothing else is up to spec as it lacks the 3rd layer shielding.

Re: Coax Cable

Thanks again for all the help guys! (and girls?)

Well I am a little confused....

I dug out the 15 meter coax that I was given several years ago and had to stick a new connector on the end...
I did about 20 speed tests for the 15m and the 1m cable, the 15m cable seems to average very very very slightly better then the 1m cable, lol. So the 15 meters seems to be the same and NOT worse so Im happy with that!
