do i need a superhub upgrade ?
Hi im sure this has been asked but i could not see it, i have been upgraded form 50mb line to the 100mb line and in the letter that came to day they said i should get the free superhub upgrade as my current modem is not good enough.
the current modem is the black vmng300, i have read a few posts on these forums moaning about the superhub and its built in router, i do not want/need this as i have a Linksys i am more than happy with unless the SH is better and the problems have been fixed ?
any help, info would be great!

Re: do i need a superhub upgrade ?
you'll need the SH to get 100mb, i think it was said that 60 is the modem you have's max speed.
the sh can be put in modem mode and then you can use your own router

Not true, i've got the exact same modem as the OP and i was upgraded from 50Mb to 100Mb, im getting download speeds of between 94Mb and 98Mb, so if i was the OP i'd stick to the modem that he has as the superhub seems to be nothing but trouble.

Re: do i need a superhub upgrade ?
If your getting only low to mid 30's on a 100mb line, I would seriously question what tier you are actually on in the modem config page. If that confirms you are on a 100mb line, then I would look at your power levels to make sure they are in spec.
Not being funny, but low to mid 30's on a 100mb line? Something is seriously wrong there and the VMNG300 you have is more then capable of 100mb - assuming it's not on it's last legs

Re: do i need a superhub upgrade ?
Those power levels and SNR are fine, the correctables and uncorrectables are very high! whats your uptime on the modem?

Re: do i need a superhub upgrade ?
You want full duplex, its the 100mbps bit thats the issue.
The VMNG300 has 1000mbps ports, which are needed to achieve 100meg speeds (100mbps wont because of overheads, max would be 80ish) so it looks as if your current router is the limiting factor there. If its a WRT54G linksys router then the CPU will be a limiting factor too.
What sort of speeds were you getting before the upgrade?

Re: do i need a superhub upgrade ?
No, once again 100mbps will work fine on a 100mbps port, that's why it's a 100mbps port.
You will easily get 95mbps+ on a 100mbps port.

Re: do i need a superhub upgrade ?
speeds were anything from 35mb to high 40's before the upgrade, yes thats the router, just had a look.
so i guess i either buy a new router or get the super hub ?

its actually the WRT54GL model but I'm sure that doesn't make much difference

Re: do i need a superhub upgrade ?
The WRT54GL has severe speed limitations and cannot handle your full speed properly.
