New e-mail account question

Hi

I want to set up another e-mail account which I can use for when I don't want a recipient to know my main address. The help section for this has not been available all day so could somebody tell me how I do this, please?

Also, what is the difference between "Add another e-mail address you own" and "Add a POP3 mail account you own"? I only own one address which is why I want to create another one and the only other POP3 account I've ever had was with TalkTalk and that was before I joined VM. I'm a bit confused here

Many thanks for any help.

David

Re: New e-mail account question

sme thing dude. POP3 is Post Office Protocol which is basically the way your pc/email servers "receive" mail, like the post office. SMTP is the opposite of that (simple mail transfer protocol) and is used to "send" your mail fyi. You will have a primary email address registered to your account and you can setup up to 10 additional "secondary" addresses afaik. I can't remember the exact method to do it, I got it wrong when I tried to help someone last week so I won't even try That being said, although I am talking about primary and seconday addresses, when you setup up your additional addresses you have the option to set your new addresses as the primary address for your account so you can use it for the bulk of your mail (general stuff) and then use your current address for peeps you know and a secondary address.

Why not set up a generic google email address (gmail) or hotmail or FastMail etc? Then you're not tied into Virgin - can be used if you switch to another provider.

POP3 is used by email clients on your computer (LiveMail, Thinderbird etc). Enables you to store/archive independently.

It can also be used by the Virgin/Google system to access mails from a different email address (HotMail, FastMail etc).

Thus you can access multiple addresses from a single account.
