Up-speed halved

For the first time since I have been with VM, > 5 years, I have a persistent service problem.

For 3 days my up speed has been reduced to < 5Mb.

This is a similar result to those I have had any time of day.

Here are my levels and settings. Any ideas?

Re: Up-speed halved

very very interesting because you are provisioned for 10mbit up. It is like you have been hit by stm on your upstream and it has been cut to 50%. I know it isnt network wide because I am uploading at 1.17mb/sec as we speak.

Re: Up-speed halved

Provisioning speed shows the maximum speeds you would get in an ideal world, then networks places a cap on at their end and that is then the maximum you might get. I have been on a 2.7 Mb/s upload cap since the beginning of April, VM just do not have enough upload to go round at this time. Some areas are in total meltdown due to the speed doubling, VM have to have the fastest download speed adverts no matter what.

foxtrot_yankee is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Up-speed halved

So is that why I have this? (60Mb)

This upload speed is less than what I had on the old 50Mbit.

Re: Up-speed halved

No, I believe that the upload speed fpr 60mbit is 3mbit, until the upload upgrades have been completed, then it will rise to 6mbit.

That is what I thought until I got the same readings day or night, for 3 days running.

I have checked all the usual issues, like usage elsewhere on my home network. Really this is out of the blue, with no previous history of congestion around here and a squeaky clean ping monitor graph.

Still , 5Mb upload this evening. Damn that means I have to call Bangalore!! Grrrrr

Don't know if this is anything to do with it, but most other people have an upstream channel of 20480 Kbits/sec. See yours above.

Re: Up-speed halved

that is the max speed that can go through the channel i.e. it is a 10mbit channel which sounds a bit off because that means you need the whole channel to yourself to get max speed.

Re: Up-speed halved

Seems strange, are you sure your IP hasnt changed, I would have expected congestion on a 10mb upstream channel!

Re: Up-speed halved

Just had a word with Bangalore. Kind lady said she would check the line.

"No fault can be found on your line", was her verdict. "Let us know if you are still having the problem tomorrow."

Speed test 5 minutes later.

Can't they just be honest?

No. My IP address has not changed. My ping monitor is functioning on my existing address.

Perhaps that explains why the max I get is only ever 9.1Mb, despite my 10250000 bps setting. Although, of course, there isn't enough room for overheads anyway.

Puzzling isn't it? Why did they change it in the first place?

Re: Up-speed halved

It changed itself, noise on the line made it fall back to a modulation that could cope with a lower SNR until the noise was fixed or went away.
