Flashing Send light - Motorola SB5100

In an effort to follow the guidelines:

Location - Plymouth
Formerly Blueyonder
No idea about the Bromley/Langley
Modem is a Motorola Surfboard SB5100

The problem I could use some help or advice with is the almost constant loss of connection we've been suffering with recently.
Everything will be working fine and then all of a sudden the modem seems to go through its starting up cycle (receive - send - online) only it gets stuck on Send. This can last anything from a few seconds to hours before it reconnects.

Here's the line stats from the modem page in case they're of use:

Down:
Frequency 331000000 Hz Locked
Signal to Noise Ratio 40 dB
Power Level -3 dB

Up:
Channel ID 1
Frequency 18800000 Hz Ranged
Power Level 55 dBmV

Any help would be appreciated even if it's just saying call an engineer as that'll at least help me convince the account holder to call them.

upstream levels too high, if you ring up they will probably arrange you a free upgrade though

Re: Flashing Send light - Motorola SB5100

Thanks for the replies, hopefully this cures what ails us.

A few quick questions if you don't mind:

Would the cables outside the house affect things? In particular there's a rusty connector on what looks like a brown coax cable.

And lastly, how does the Superhub compare to a Linksys WRT54G? There's a shall we say "enthusiastic" user of utorrent in our house and the Tomato firmware has been a godsend in my efforts to reduce their impact on everybody else.

Hopefully I'll get to finally play some Diablo 3 this week.

Re: Flashing Send light - Motorola SB5100

There are many better informed people on this forum but, put the Superhub in modem mode and use your existing router
edit: unless you have poor signal just clean up the connection and weatherproof it.
