iTunes Store on iPad - SLOW

Can some other VM customers check their iPads and see if the iTunes Store App is working OK for them?

In the last few days the iTunes Store App (Music, Films, TV, etc) has become unusable on my iPad. I loads so slowly that I cannot use it at all. I have discussed with users in the Apple Forums and there are others with the same issue. I have asked if they are VM customers but I have not had a reply yet.

So I thought I would check here to see if it is a VM issue with a specific type of traffic.

It is not related to the OS version on the iPad as the users I have discussed with are on various versions, but it also does not seem to affect all iPad iTunes Store users. So I wondered if VM could be a common cause.

Re: iTunes Store on iPad - SLOW

It's only the iTunes Store I am seeing issues with, the iPad is fine for everything else (Internet, etc).

If both your replies are saying that the iTunes Store was 100% OK for you then we must have an issue at the Apple end for some specific accounts.

There are a number of us on the Apple forums with very slow iTunes Store Apps.

Re: iTunes Store on iPad - SLOW

There is an intermittent issue with iTunes downloads. I get it really slow sometimes for no apparent reason.

Re: iTunes Store on iPad - SLOW

Exact same issue for me, completely unusable.

My setup:
Virgin 50meg running absolutely fine for everything bar ITMS.
iPad with iOS 5.1.1
iTunes match

Seems not to be limited to VM though:

Re: iTunes Store on iPad - SLOW

Apple downloads are always fairly slow compared with other sources, even downloading XCode and iOS betas from the Developer Centre I can't utilise full speed.

I have noticed iTunes downloads have got a lot slower over the past few weeks, iTunes Match downloads are quite quick but I am finding downloading Apps slower.

Re: iTunes Store on iPad - SLOW

just to be clear, this is not just for downloads but everything. i.e. it takes ages just to load the first screen; thumbnails for all the content, text, previews etc... it's literally minutes for me sometimes. I might put a vid online demonstrating just how excruciatingly slow it is!

btw, it works fine on my mac and apple tv, it's just happening on my iPad and iPhone since updating to 5.1.1.

hope they fix it soon!

It is fairly common, no one seems to know why but it has nothing to do with your ISP. I'm on BT Infinity and am facing exactly the same problem.

Everything else on my iPad is perfect. I'm booked into the Genius Bar in an Apple Store on Tuesday as I'm not happy.

My iPad is brand new so I've only ever had iOS 5.1.1. It isn't the downloads we are talking about here, they are fine. It is even loading the pages on the iTunes app. I'd like to be able to buy some content from Apple but the damn thing won't let me at the moment so I'm sure it is something they will fix to avoid losing revenue. Unlike you though this problem isn't happening on my iPhone 4S.
