Re: Power Levels
as above, also try the pinhole reset. down levels are high. up level is low.

Re: Power Levels
Nothing really changed - I'll put a message on the VM support forums later. Cheers for the help.

It will need an engineer then to lower the levels
The maximum optimal is 7, yours is well outside of this so either needs moving onto a higher attenuated tap in the cabinet or the installation of an attenuator.

Re: Power Levels
JB's right. You must be living right close to the street box. A forward path attenuator would bring down the downstream levels but would not increase the upstream poer. Actually the upstream power doesn't need to be high because you're so close to the cabinet but any noise getting in could sort of "overcome" that low power level. So moving in the cabinet to a tap point with c. + 12 dB (greater) attenuation would do the trick.

Re: Power Levels
The box is not too far away - about a stone's throw.
The other week we lost the internet (plus on demand) and apparently an engineer had put something on our line at the cabinet which was then removed.
I seem to recall many years ago having an attenuator on the modem but that was on the modem before the previous one.

Re: Power Levels
Apparently it was something to stop people listening in or something like that. I never spoke to the engineer so I can't confirm that it was that but you're probably right

Re: Power Levels
Ahh, a noise blocker, those get put on if you have loose connectors or poor cabling in your house. It's to stop noise getting onto the network

Re: Power Levels
OK - we have had an engineer out and Downstream channels are between, currently, 5.7dBmV and 7.1dBmV. There's a 3dB forward path attenuator on the shub. The first speed test I ran gave about 10 m/bit.
Upstream power level is 31.8 dBmV.
Are these figures now within parameters?

Re: Power Levels
upstreams better still not the best. he could have tested a 10dB. not even a 6dB!
