Strange Issues with my service.

Since early yesterday I've been having annoying issues with my broadband.

It started with simple browsing of a simple webpage refusing to load for no apparent reason. Then tried another webpage and the same result which has been commonly occurring since yesterday so about every 5 minutes or so it just stops working for a period of about a minute each time.

I thought simple enough it's just the connection dropping.

Then strangely discovered that the following does not 'drop'

Skype
Windows Live Messenger
TeamSpeak
FIFA 12 - Online
WoW

Basically anything non browser related is still functional all the time.

Again thought of a simple solution, Probably just my browser, Tried Mozilla and IE both with the same issue. Maybe just the computer, Tried 2 laptops and a Smartphone with the same issue but just the browser once again.

Speedtest shows a perfectly acceptable ping along with 100down and 8 up

Any Ideas?

Re: Strange Issues with my service.

Is it all pages that don't load or just one/some?

Is there any commonality between the failed pages (i.e. all the failed ones are in a particular country or region)?

I've had issues where www.somesite was OK but download.somesite failed. This turned out to be a routing issue partly VM problem partly outside VM. This fault could easily be spotted using traceroute (tracert in Windows).

If tracert <host that works> looks very different to tracert <host that fails> other than the last few stages then that could be the problem here. The difference in my case was very obvious, it may be less so for you. You will need to try to find hosts in similar locations ideally.

You can also try checking out that DNS is resolving the failed hosts correctly. nslookup <hostname> will show if it is and then you can check if the IP address returned is valid using various online tools. nslookup will also show which DNS server is giving you answers.

Also it could just be that the site is down for some reason. Unlikely if it's a major player. You can check if site is down at http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/

Re: Strange Issues with my service.

I have seemed to solve the issue somewhat by switching to modem mode.

as soon as I reset the superhub to default settings the problem comes right back. Its hooked up via ethernet either way and I've never had any problems with it in normal mode.

I thought along the same lines and wondered whether it was specific sites.

List I tried to confirm it wasn't just the above.

Speedtest.net
BBC.co.uk
CableForum
facebook.com
Ea.com
Steam Store

Note that in normal mode all of these work completely fine then suddenly for five minutes they dont.

I'm also going to try the DNS idea's suggested above.

Re: Strange Issues with my service.

Using GoogleDNS at the minute, will give it an hour and post results
