can anyone tell me how much you can download on a 50mb connection from usernet / newsgroups before they restrict your speed?

Re: 50mb Data cap
If your upload has been improved, here is the table.
If it hasn't, this applies

Re: 50mb Data cap
thanks hugh - but it says on that table that i wont be capped
but if you read the policy - you will be capped if using newsgroups / p2p
i am trying to find out the figure of the "fair use amount" of the 50mb connection

there no fair use, there just traffice magane usenet and torrent during peak times so doesnt matter if oyu download 10mb or 200gb you will be restrict i think to about 300kb/s going on other reports

Sorry New here and due to have VM installed on Monday.
Are you saying that all usenet traffic, regardless of how much you download is managed?
If that's the case its back to infinity, while I am by no means a heavy user, I would of hoped to be able to use the system as and when needed.

Ya, to be fair though I tend to do all my downloading over night or early in the morning because I know it is going to be busy in the evenings and I hate seeing my downloads go at half speed when I know they can potentially go a lot faster so it doesn't really bother me that much. This is the blab:
"We also moderate the total volume of file sharing traffic on our network between 5pm and midnight on weekdays and midday and midnight on weekends. This policy, which applies to all broadband packages, is restricted to Peer to Peer (“P2P”) applications and Newsgroups (which are commonly used to distribute large amounts of data)
This policy does not impact any applications other than Peer to Peer and Newsgroups, so things like watching iPlayer, online gaming, making calls via Skype, downloading music tracks from iTunes or streaming them from Spotify and sending an email or normal browsing are unaffected.
It's important to remember that these traffic management policies only apply at peak times when speeds are most likely to be affected by people using more than their fair share. Outside of peak times we do not manage traffic."
If you want to read all the rubbish where they make it sound like they are doing you a huge favour have a look here:

Re: 50mb Data cap
VM don't define a fair use amount. Newsgroups/p2p are subject to shaping, not capping.
[Edit]
Too late.

As in, almost all waking hours during which the average person is likely to be at home or wanting to use their connection.

Re: 50mb Data cap
Do a speedtest or check your modem status.

Re: 50mb Data cap
Do your Usenet downloading overnight or before midday (on weekends at least) and it's fine. Seeing as how you're getting 10GB in < 30 minutes when going full steam on 50MB, it shouldn't be too tough to squeeze it in.

Re: 50mb Data cap
I can't speak for newsgroups, but the P2P throttling has never once been an issue for me.

Infinity shape P2P right now, amongst other things, they do not shape newsgroups though this is of course subject to change.

Depends. I see 3MB/s or so out of 50Mb usually. My area is pretty affluent though so people probably buy their content rather than leeching it.

wasnt awartre infintiy was shaping p2p already i kenw it was goign to come but certianly nver kenw it was hte case now
ive seen over 2mb/s on newsgroup at times but i am sure i read somewhere on virgin site that it states it will be throttled to 300kb/s it coudl easily be varying throttle depending on traffic not sure to be honest but no point getting op hopes up of good speeds when it might be much slower
