cancelling VM national broadband within contract period
Hi guyz...
I took VM national broadband when I moved to my current house 5 months back as there was no cable options at this address..
Prior to that I was on VM cable for 3 years in my previous address but they started me on a new contract in August when I moved house as its a different sevice.
Now the good news for me is BT infinity have started coverage in my area starting this month. And I really am fed up of the maximum 3 MB speed I can get on any national broadband at this address..
The bad news is I am tied to VM contract for another 7 months.
I even expressed interest for VM cable broadband through their site last month but they emailed back sayin due to cost issues they are not looking at cabling this street in the near future.
Is there any way of getting out of contract without paying hefty amounts as I am able to get a 10 times faster connection now.
Thanks for your advise.

You can buy your way out .. but other than them not providing the service you pay for, you're stuck..

If they change your contract at any point, such as upping the broadband costs, you can pull out without charge. You'll have to hope for a VM price rise I'm afraid.

Re: cancelling VM national broadband within contract period
I empathise. The National service from VM bears no resemblance to their cable service. My adsl service has been like a yo-yo since I took it in October, ranging from "noise on my line", to a completely dead line for days and "broadband" that is, frankly, very poor. Timeouts and dropped connections have been the norm.
And as a long time Virgin cable customer, I'm not usually a complainant about their services. It's just very disappointing.
I dunno, I can't see how it helps to tie unhappy people into a contract when the service provided is just not what the blurb says.
No disrespect to any VM staff here and I know this is primarily a cable resource but those of us who can't get cable have to make do. Yes, I know it's copper and all that but if VM were realistic about its capability, those that need the internet might decide the adsl service VM can offer isn't suitable.
In the long run, I'm sure it will hurt VM as much as it does their contracted and unhappy prisoners, erm, I mean customers.
ps notwithstanding of course that a "faster BT connection" will cost a lot more.

Quite similar to my cable service then.
Virgin National is usually just a resold BT IPstream product as are many ADSL connections. There are plenty of better and cheaper ADSL ISPs than VN. The best ADSL products are non-BT but they aren't available on all exchanges. Check http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php and see if Be/O2 or Sky LLU services are available to you. The gold standard is Be. Sky LLU are very good. O2 is a budget version of Be with traffic management.

Thanks. Yep, I can get Be and Sky but I'm bound and gagged to VM at the mo. To be fair, my cable service was always excellent but the adsl side of things is another story.

If and when you do swap don't forget to signup through a cashback site (topcashback quidco or similar).
