Virgin blocking non-virgin DNS again?

Hi,

this morning I had a problem where web sites would not load. In the past I'd used google's namebench which had selected these nameservers:
Quote:
#SpitfireUK GB
nameserver 217.13.128.17
# Eclipse Internet GB
nameserver 212.104.130.9
#UUnet-EU4 GB
nameserver 158.43.240.4
However, nothing was resolving. I switched back to virgin's own DNS
Quote:
nameserver 194.168.4.100
nameserver 194.168.8.100
and all was fine. This has happened before - does anyone know if this is a mistake, or a policy, and if so, where Virgin announce these kind of things?

Cheers!
A.

No issues here, currently using

Code:
username@fileserver:~$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4
Resolves things just fine for me.

Same for me, I'm using OpenDNS and I've never had any issues (no DNS related issues anyway) :P

Re: Virgin blocking non-virgin DNS again?

It's possible those addresses are no longer public open, which may be the case for any that are not actually designated public.
The two best known public DNSes, are:
OpenDNS - 208.67.222.222. 208.67.220.220
Google public DNS - 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4

Another one is http://www.dnsadvantage.com/
156.154.70.1
156.154.71.1

Name.space (alternate root) 209.48.2.11
209.48.2.189
