Invisible Virgin Network

We have recently had Virgin Broadband set up and my housemate can connect wirelessly with her laptop, however when trying to connect with my laptop my pc does not show the network at all . However it does pick up neighbouring networks nearby.

What could be the cause of this, do I need to upgrade my network card or download some software ??

Please help :-0

Re: Invisible Virgin Network

You should Add another computer to your network via Virgin's wireless manager (the software you got with the router). Make sure you password your network though.

As for picking up neighbouring networks, this could well be down to their not having any security and is quite a common issue.

Re: Invisible Virgin Network

When setting up a VM new BB connection for somebody, I found that the disc sent with the router was totally unnecessary and causing all manner of connection problems.

In our case, on uninstalling the VM software within seconds the computer automatically got controlled by windows and the network was available to other wireless devices, including an X Box 360 which up to then had refused to connect.

Re: Invisible Virgin Network

is the router broadcasting on a channel not supported by wifi card, in the EU i think we can use channels 1-13 however i think US can only use channels 1-11.

check your region setting for the wifi card in windows if the router is broadcasting on ch13 and the wifi card can only see 1-11 it wont see the router.

Re: Invisible Virgin Network

Are you running Vista?

Is you wirelesss router broadcasting its SSID?

Because if the you are running Vista and not broadcasting a SSID, it will not find it, and you have to modify a setting in Vista, will add the link shortly.
