50 meg BB

Hi all,

I could phone VM but I know I'll get better advice here.

Currently I have a custom installation of TV and 10meg BB - what I mean is that I have installed the cables under my floor boards and into the under stairs cupboard and behind the TV. The nice vm engineer (top bloke) left me a decent amount of the cable they use for outside so I could use it to run under my floor boards.

Now if I get 50meg BB do I need to change this cable? Or is it simply a new modem?

Thanks

Re: 50 meg BB

When you get the 50 meg, before the engineer goes, look at your modem stats. Note the downstream RxMER.

If the value against that is lower than 35, then the custome wiring might be too long (added attenuation) or even kinked. You would then be advised to put the cable modem near to the inside wall box.

It's too good! But test it again all the same.

Re: 50 meg BB

Since the new modem and router my connection has been dodgy as in mixed speeds and bbc i player not working in HD because speed is to slow. I have not been STM at the time:

Signal levels

Name
WebSTAR EPC2100R2

Modem Serial Number
224457021

Cable Modem MAC Address

Hardware Version
2.1

Software Version
v2.0.2r1256-070601

Receive Power Level
3.2 dBmV

Transmit Power Level
47.0 dBmV

Cable Modem Status
Operational

I was thinking of ditching the dlink router VM gave me and got back to my netgear rangefinder max.

Any suggestions on cause of rubbish connection?

Re: 50 meg BB

Is this the best stats you can publish? We have no event log and no downstream SNR to judge by.
